Thomson Dow

It’s amazing how football works

Cotchin retires a space opens and Tom Dow gets his chance

Has he saved his afl career ?

16 disposals...30m gained.

My kids have the TV, so I'll be watching on the replay. Is he handballing backwards or to someone 1m away.
Not everyone has to have meters gained. If he can get clearances by hand and feed it cleanly to a runner that's what our midfield has been really lacking - clean centre clearances to advantage

Lacks a yard too. Only time he looks at the level is when handballing. Kicking iffy. Decision making very iffy. No mung. You cant afford 5 years patience.

yep lucky we have an abundance of clearance players , ffs kid shows he can compete in the middle and make us better in an area of weakness , no not the best kick , however there has been many gun clearance players who were not the best by foot.

I thought he did quite a few good things. Got his hands on it in the middle when others couldn’t. Reckon he’s been kept out of the side by to a degree by Taranto and Hopper - and I think today he was more creative than either of them. We’ve watched Ross develop nicely after getting a proper run at it. Shame that Dow hasn’t had the same opportunity. Will we persevere or delist? Who knows….

His hands in tight and contested work are very good. You must persist.

Will he ever be an A grader? No
Will he ever be a b grader? maybe , maybe not..

but i think he enough tricks to at least be a half decent stop gap option until somone better can replace him..

further makes me question getting hopper..

Still has a lot to learn, but should be safe.

He’s still showing improvement, so first of all - that’s a big tick before we even begin to analyse his game.

Another 3 factors in his favour is that we have several retirements this season, we don’t have a 1st round pick, and we’re setting our sights on the longer term now, so the club has very little pressure to create space on the list.

In theory, this is a dream scenario for any 4th year high draft pick midfielder to get more time.

I try my best , as Dimma said in the 2016 pre season, how about we have players play to their strengths not focus on there flaws , Dow given the chance showed plenty that he could be a clearance player , we have SFA other options , no his not a great kick , but he wins his own ball in there , which amazingly means they don’t have the ball :)) , now if we ad some class with speed to the wings , Dow will become a vital cog in the midfield, unlike others we have who can’t get a go in the middle, Dow is clean and though not straight line quick, his nimble and evasive in tight .

If we move Dow on all it will mean is we have a late pick/ rookie spot , I’d rather keep Dow

Slooow. Can’t kick for *smile*. Woeful kick of the football. We have enough of those already.

If we’re relying on Dow to play in our midfield the next three years, then we aren’t playing finals football it’s as simple as that.
