To be a mega star in the eighties has almost been a curse.

RIP

Michael Hutchence
Michael Jackson
Whitney Houston
David Bowie
Prince
George Michael

Can add Joe Strummer from the Clash to that list

Probably not a mega star but Rock the Casbah is an all-time classic.

I'll add Freddie Mercury & Robert Palmer to the list.

George Michael and Prince feature prominently in the soundtrack of my teenage years. To lose them both this year is shocking. Now if someone can wrap Boy George in cotton wool for the next couple of days, it would be appreciated.

Boy George's fixed himself up quite well in the last few years. Still in the spotlight, still leading the way. Anyone with high self-esteem will last longer.

Bon Scott is another.

Keef still treating his body like a temple

There is no doubt that Keith Richards has done a deal with the Devil.

Evidently George Michael smoked up to 20 reefers a day at one point. You can't abuse your body like these guys did and not be rolling the dice. Carrie Fisher also had her issues with drugs

Some survive like Keith but many won't and don't

I wonder if these early deaths are a sign that our liberal drug culture is making us pay later in life.

Yes it does impact for sure.

Cocaine is a common denominator with the demise of many rock stars and actors.

Cocaine is a slower killer and causes vascular injury and damage due to its hypertensive effects leads to heart attack, hypertensive issues, heart failure renal failure, damage to the eyes and cardiomyopathy and susceptibility to dangerous cardiac arrhythmias.

That said cocaine can also be an instant killer in ovedose to those not used to it or susceptible to the effects of it same as many youngsters who drop dead after taking ice or eccies etc.

Carrie Fisher was an alcoholic and a cocaine user, George Michael was on cocaine, as too was Whitney Houston who was also an alcoholic.

The industries and the circles they live in get most of them, exposed to this lifestyle early doors and with the cash its easy to fund this habitual lifestyle and extremely difficult to get out of.

Drugs and alcohol along with steroids will take down many who run that way quite often in middle age.

Ive seen the effects and the aftermath ad nauseum over and over and over again in every day society.

Your input is needed on the drugs thread, Craig. Lots of people there advocating silly things.

Yeah it comes as a great shock to me that recreational drugs can be bad for you, clearly we need to just ban them.

I loved Fisher in the Blues Brothers - great cameo from her as Jake's vengeful jilted wife, reading an RPG manual while doing her nails - here's the tunnel scene where Jake has all those great excuses for jilting her.

I loved that scene, John Belushi can be added to the list, he died from an overdose.

her mother just passed away too.

Bloody hell. This is getting really spooky now.

How does this 'happens in 3s' stuff work? In 2004, my dad died and just a few weeks later his Mum (my nanna) and my mum's brother (uncle) died.
