Found this ladder predictor on the AFL website yesterday.
Fun and interesting.

I have us:
Finishing 4 with 16 wins
Losing to Swans in Qualifying
Win against GWS in a semi Final.
Losing to Fremantle In Prelimanary

Apologies if I am the only person who did not know this existed.

http://www.afl.com.au/ladder/ladder-predictor

I showed it to my 7 year old son who is a mad port fan - but after I had worked the ladder to have us on top and port on the bottom - the look on his face as he knew something was up but couldn't work out exactly what - then showed him how it works

Now why would you have us losing. The prelim??? We'd got so far..

No. We always win the flag when I do ladder predictor. Gives a warm feeling.

Need to go 3-1 at worst over next month. If we are a finals quality side, then WCE, GWS and Carlton should be comfortably deadly with.

However despite our recent form, early this year showed what can happen if we don't play to our potential

IF we win on Friday night we go past the loser of Hawks v adelaide.
We go past GWS too IF they lose to the kangas.
But the conservative in me says we want the Roos to lose that one so we get 8 points ahead of them.
GWS can wait, their turn will come.
My gut feel is that I should plonk $100 on geelong to play finals

One of the vagaries of the draw is WHEN you play certain teams.

For instance, young sexy sides like GWS and WB are now ripe for the picking as they begin to fatigue.

You don't want Sydney right about now because they are working into some momentum, but you might want them in the final rounds when they are tapering.

A huge, seemingly random factor that can make or break seasons.

yep, spot on. if we played the bulldogs or Melbourne this week, we'd beat em comfortably... but we do play teams like the giants and saints at a more suitable time of the season in the coming weeks. some would argue its swings and roundabouts, but generally speaking, you'd probably prefer to play the better/more experienced teams early (as they peak later on) and the up and coming/less experienced teams later (as they tire out later on).

The ONLY consistency with the draw is that every club plays the same number of games.

One bogey at a time, Joe. Knocked off the Pies in the first time in forever this year, and we do play the Roos again this year.

Our biggest current bogeys are

North anywhere - 2011
Geelong anywhere - 2006
Geelong in geelong - 2006
Sydney at the SCG- 2004
Winning a final - 2001

Rd 21 Defeat the Pies and knock them out of any top 4 chance.
Rd 22 Defeat the Bombers and condemn them to a bottom four finish.
Rd 23 Defeat the Roos and knock them out of the finals.

What an August that would be :beer

Im not too concerned about that loss. It happens.
We know we could turn that result around.
WCE were pretty good, they ran ran ran and didn't give the ball back much.
They are top 2 or three at the moment and plsying alright.

If we slip out f the top 8 today it is because of the losses earlier in the year Melb, and the 8 point games geelong WBD and North.

I see us winning v;
St kilda
GWS
GCS
Carlton
Essendon

Which leaves us having to pick up 2 of the following:

Syd
Coll
North
Freo
Hawthorn

Which of those 2 can we beat? I don't think we will beat Collingwood again. Hawthorn highly doubtful. Can we turn the tide against North? Freo over here?

Needed 14 wins in 2014 to make the 8 but assuming only 13 required all that does is get us sneaking into the 8. Certainly haven't kicked on since the 15 wins in 2013. Our current window is really next 2-3 years. At the end of this year quite a few of our current seelected players are 27yo+. Maric, Edwards, Deledio, Reiwoldt, Chaplin, Grigg, Houli. Really unless we can win 9 out of our last 11, 2015 is another disappointing season with at best a 7th or 8th spot.
