With the points we have stockpiled, if its someone like Cadman, I could see some sort of trade like below (obviously depends where the picks end up - I've done this based on the ladder remaining the same as 2023).

Cadman for Richmond 1st, Richmond 2nd and Richmond F2, points value is around 3,300 points with the highest pick being 6. Luke Jackson was traded to Freo as a former Pick 3, for 2,577 points (I used an expected finishing position, not the actual finishing position as Freo slid big time last year) with the highest pick at the time expected around 13 (they finished 5th on the H&A ladder the previous year). JHF also was traded for 3,539 points with the highest pick being Pick 1 (but getting 2 and 3 back). The points I'm suggesting above of 3,300 roughly with the highest pick of 6 should be in the ballpark regarding value.

We'd still then have around 2,400 points in the 2024 draft. If we could trade the bulk of the lower points (could be various trades) up to a pick around 9 or 10 and then keep Freo's 2nd, we'd be in a really good spot IMO.

Our problem with our list isn't overall quality IMO, we have a bunch of very talented kids on the list, but what we lack is that young superstar talent (bar potentially Gibcus). If we could bring in Cadman AND a top 10 pick and retain our 2025 1st (I'd be open to trading as I think thats the 1st year of Tasmania right?) then we would be in a really great space to try and find that top tier talent that can accelerate our rebuild.

I've called it a reverse listbuild a number of times on here, and I really think we are in that spot, with some of those picks chosen between 20 and 50 over the last few drafts I think we've filled a lot of those roles that we need to support the superstars, we just need to add the superstars. Under about 26 we already have Bolton and potentially Gibcus in that position, to add another couple and who knows if we target a FA as well, then who knows. I know his kicking might be a bit suspect, but maybe someone like Ben Ainsworth falls out of the tree shaking that will happen at the Suns over the next few years as they try and manage their salary cap.

Richmond (2024; taken from the Draft Guru web-site). total points: 4584picks: 6, 25, 26, 39, 43, 44, 62, 70, 74, 80

just hope WC and Freo have very, very bad 2024 seasons; as from my understanding; that would mean good things for us....

Have to death ride West Coast and Freo (and of course the year in year out ones Carlton and Collingwood)

Also support the Suns to get in the 8. Makes the trade for their first round cheaper for us next year

I doubt the club would want to trade out all our picks so soon after the Taranto/ Hopper deals.
For a 20yo 6'5" forward beast.....trade away.
So, you’re advocating selling the farm for ONE player? Madness.
With the picks we’ve accumulated, there will be a number of clubs come calling to trade out their first selections to counter academy and FS bids imo. If that’s the case, take them happily, trade up as high as we can with what we get, and draft young first round talent.
Stuff selling it all for one player who may or may not be a star, as many seem to think (wrongly imo) will be automatic with Cadman. I also think we wouldn’t have selected Fawcett if we had a move for an established key tall in the works.

It certainly will be fascinating what Blair does with these picks next year. There are plenty of options and it could be a mix of these, all have the chance of really accelerating our rebuild, which I'm firmly of the belief is a reverse listbuild. Our premiership list was built off recruiting the guns 1st with our best draft picks and then spending the years from 2010-2016 building the rest of the list out. It seems to me we are doing it backwards, ie. we potentially have a lot of the rest of the list built out, now we need to add the guns and our hand for 2024 gives us that option, plus we should start creating ample room within our cap. So the options:

1 - Trade in ready made talent
2 - Trade in Free Agents, maybe slightly more costly in the salary cap but without the draft capital
3 - Draft Top 10 draftees

The tall forward is a connundrum. If we do 3, then they potentially don't get to impact too much whilst out band of 24-28 year olds are in their prime, so do we trade for a previous top draftee (King or Cadman) or do we take a mixed approach and trade a slightly weaker tall forward (like Marshall) via Free Agency and keep the high end draft picks and build out our midfield.

Whatever happens, its building to a significant off season at the end of 2024.

Graham, Grimes, McIntosh, Pickett and Prestia have all been great for us but were collectively, very much less so this year.
If this group are are still running down the clock at AFL level by the midseason break expect that our brains trust are planning for another bottom 6 finish. That would make 3. The old rules about not talking to players still in contract are not observed now.

Something big and Lynch like is coming.

I would only if we had pick 15 or more.
I wouldn't trade 2 1st rounders NO WAY.
A pick under 6 would get us a Humphrey, Rozee, Bailey type.
So no if we talking about losing a top pick
Hilarious. Every second post you whinge that we don't know how to draft in the first round and should trade out our early picks.

Posters complain we don't draft key forwards then when there's the potential to get one of the best young key forwards going around they get all gun shy.

Cadman will be a star. He has It. Alpha traits. Wants to be The Man and will play in front of the pack to prove it. Ben King doesn't do this (Max does). Ben is a beta, which will make him the perfect foil for uber-alpha Jed Walter.

Cadman can run, can mark, can kick, has ground game. Great on the lead, excellent one-on-one, will fly in front of the pack and pluck the ball at the highest possible point. Nice set-shot and good on the snap. Can get up the ground and double back or play from the square. Wants to be The Man. Projects as a 400+ goal player. Perfect for us. Our first pick + another we can trade up for is totally worth it.
