The Blair "Which?" Project

I don't think anyones saying he'll come cheap, any trade would need to be in the region of a points value of Pick 1 with first rounders part of that equation. GWS got similar value to their original picks for Taranto / Hopper and the Jackosn / JHF trades a year ago show that similar value for younger players is around their original draft pick for these top end guys.

BTW I have no idea if Cadman is the right move (I didn't bring the trade up), just merely commenting on value. If we have high picks (top 5) and they want those, I'd prefer a FA move for the tall forward role and take top 5 picks to the draft personally.
He's not the number 1 player based on first year output, as a key position prospect he'll take time but there absolutely needs to be significant progress this year. If he's marooned in the reserves and playing behind Hogan then his value diminishes, I reckon his standing will need to be assessed with the other draftees, it's even probable that pick 6 comes with a better CV.

It is immaterial what GWS want , the deal will be driven by Cadman desire to join us.

In any case, having the option to entertain such deals is a huge credit to Blair, he has effectively created a 1st round pick out of nothing

On that basis, and when comparing our draft hand, before and after trade week, we get an A+ for this trade period

Really great lateral thinking

In Blair we trust
They did well and obviously have a strategy for next season.

Well said. We are in a win/win situation. If we have a decent year and make finals we still have draft capital to attract new talent through the trade period.

If the arse falls out we will be going balls deep into the draft and landing top end young talent.

And who is pick 6?

*smile* me! GC have just had the most outrageous draft gifting ever seen, outside of new clubs first draft handout, and they still end up with the best draft hand for next year as well.
The game is fixed.
I reckon so ............... well to a degree it certainly is with Fixturing, the ARC debacle that put the RFC out in 22, draft academies, draft favours and compensations and rewards.

Free kicks and umpiring anomalies every week year after year ........... media coverage and favorable / unfavorable coverage.

It goes all the way back to Lockett and the brown paper bags, they have treated the game like a plaything, constantly toying with the rules to get favourable outcomes for their beloved expansion teams.

Until all teams play each other twice in the same season or at the very least over two seasons, the competition will remain contrived and corrupted.

So the AFL needs to work out how they can make that happen fairly as opposed to the garbage they are coming up with right now.

It started small back then, and importantly they got away with it so now it has grown like a cancer and spread to every part of the organisation. If anybody doesn't agree with this assessment, try and think of one aspect of the AFL that is not bent in some way.

The problem is when GC does become a top 4 team, the crowds will drop. Especially if North start camping in the 8.
The AFL got Collingwood a flag to get lost money back (covid & TV deal)
But this could turn to shitt very quickly for the AFL when they get extra 1000 people in Queensland watching the game but in Victoria and South Australia 10,000 stop watching..
I'm not convinced the AFL knows what it's trying to create.
It's all rosy now the turn styles are ticking over, they won't be if real AFL clubs including WC are sitting outside the 8 for 10 years

If GC make a Grand Final, at least they won't have to worry about all members not getting a ticket, and the bad press that comes with it. It's one story we won't have to listen to for a year.

So, you’re advocating selling the farm for ONE player? Madness.
With the picks we’ve accumulated, there will be a number of clubs come calling to trade out their first selections to counter academy and FS bids imo. If that’s the case, take them happily, trade up as high as we can with what we get, and draft young first round talent.
Stuff selling it all for one player who may or may not be a star, as many seem to think (wrongly imo) will be automatic with Cadman. I also think we wouldn’t have selected Fawcett if we had a move for an established key tall in the works.
No guarantee just because your a 1st rnd pick means your going to make it.Look at our 2004 draft haul.lol
If its Cadman at least we know how he performs at senior level and trade or decline accordingly.
