Steve Morris F/S

I notice it at the time, but don't mark down specific moments and times every week. But there is one I can think of on Friday night in either the 2nd or 4th quarter where Morry applied hard pressure on a Carlton player (Touhy?) and he looked inward, miss kicked and turned the ball over just outside our 50m arc, pretty sure we scored from it, but I can't remember if it was a goal or point.

I have it recorded and can have a look but you do understand this reads like being damned by feint praise? All other players are out there putting pressure on the oppostion but they are also actually getting the ball as well.

he doesn't have to make players sh!t their daks to be effective.

like I said, degrade the D50 release. this is what hardwick seems to be marking him on.

you play Moro, you get away with playing three talls who may not chase so well.

maybe.

Geez Carts, you're getting soft! :hihi

I often notice Moro harassing the opposition kicker with his usual high intensity. he may not get a tackle or a smother in, but he hurries the opposition.

So basically he's performing the same actions as those in the crowd.

I don't think anyone else on the list puts on the same high intensity work that Morry does.

I understand the criticism of Morris. He's a small forward that doesn't kick goals (I've been on the Madonna bandwagon for some time), however, people say he adds nothing whatsoever which I disagree with. On raw stats if he did nothing else other then the regular 4 handballs, 1 kick per game he wouldn't be playing. I think he does create at least one goal per match (Hardly inspiring, I know.) with his defence.

winning make me a bit softer, yeah ;D

look, I see the criticism.

no one wants to see us deploy a more skilful, naturally talented forward line than me.

What drives me bonkers about Morris is when an opposition player is on the ground attempting to gather the ball and you can see Morris running at 100kph towards said player, and you think 'ffs, don't slide into the player and give away a free', and what happens? He slides in like a maniac and gives away the free kick.

I understand that he is trying to apply pressure, but he needs to be more discerning when he comes to applying that pressure.

I'd just happily settle for a small forward who could actually kick a goal or two.

Morris is simply obeying Boyle's Law: the pressure and volume of a gas have an inverse relationship when temperature is held constant.

According to this there is an inverse relationship between the amount of pressure he applies and the volume of stats he gets.

:hihi

I'm sure Newton's law also applies someway.

We have a few physicists in the side. Gordon applies Heisenberg's uncertainty principle.

no stats, just what I've seen. ;D

I've seen it a lot differently. All I see is him getting to the opponent a second or two too late almost every time. He's way to reactionary and he's not very good at it either. I don't think anyone disagrees what role he's trying to play. The question is whether he is completing that role adequately. I say no. Out of interest who do we think are the Morris equivalents in other sides? It would make a good comparison. Am still scratching my head how he managed a 3 year contract. Must have used car salesman qualities.

I tend to agree TL. Always a case of being second to the contest/potential rebound imo.

I think the fact he was dropped says that even Dimma doesn't seem to think he's doing a good job. Problem is there doesn't seem to be a logical replacement at VFL. McDonough is a different type of player, as is Lloyd. Lloyd could be the one if he gets his fitness up.

We need a Paul Puopolo clone more than we need a Jamie Elliott clone imo.

Dimma wants Morris to be another Jake King, but Steve just isn't up to it.
I'm not knocking his endeavour. He puts in, but he's no Jake (or Balantyne the serial pest).
I guess we'll just have to put up with this until we either get an upgrade, or we go for a more skilful, attacking type.

You can bet dima wants an upgrade on FFS also.

From what Ive heard for a while now, Donuts and Lennin just dont work hard enough. Result not fit enough.

Cheap stats in the VFL is not enough. Till they can compete and cover the ground they wont get games.

Our injury list makes our current bottom 3 the preferred option.
