Round 17: the sweaty hemorrhoid games.

Who thought bringing Gunstan back was a good idea???

**the only reason he is back is because he was never best 22 at Brisbane.

***its always good to be mates with the coach

How about just learning how to play that ground? Picking a side that suits the ground.

I think this is a complete list of the instances of five years or fewer to go from premiers to spooners:

3 years
Melbourne 1948-1951

4 years
South Melbourne 1918-1922
Hawthorn 1961-1965
West Coast 2006-2010

5 years
Melbourne 1900-1905
South Melbourne 1933-1938
Geelong 1952-1957
Footscray 1954-1959
Melbourne 1964-1969
West Coast 2018-2023

Fitzroy won the flag in 1913 and in a sense won the spoon in 1916, but there were only four teams in it that year and they ended up winning the Grand Final.
Interesting year the Lions had in 1916. Won the first two games, drew the third and were on top of the ladder. Lost the remaining nine to finish fourth out of four.

The weird finals system in use at the time meant they played Collingwood in the semi. They won it and then had to beat minor premiers Carlton twice to claim the flag which they did. Fortuitously avoided Richmond in the finals. We lost our semi to Carlton by three points which was curtains for us.

Under the Page-McIntyre final four system, Fitzroy would have copped the mighty Tiges in the First Semi and that would have been it.

Hardwick never had a Plan B. He had patience though, some excellent assistant coaches, a solid administration behind him and some generational footballers. In the last two years he has made the fatal mistake of not observing his own limitations and encouraged to throw his lot in with the AFL and the benefits they have and will continual to provide him.

Thought Hooch's press conference was great. Although never once used "looking forward to the challenge". Disappointing in that respect.

Hardwick's right. When is this club going to stand up?

Thirteen years in the competition now, given every concession and every leg-up imaginable. Yet they're still nowhere and the excuses ran out years ago. They've never played finals, either.

It's abysmal.
