Richmond Vs GWS - Game Day Thread

My brother is in the Essendon coterie.
He flew in from NY to see a game, bitterly disappointed.
I remember when they were a powerhouse, invincible team, like in 2000.
Now, we are light years ahead.
A number of teams have improved this year from last year: Carl, Coll, Hawthorn, Syd.
It is essential to bank early wins.

I just wanna say the sky ain't falling. Some of the comments I read during the week I was just taken aback that GWS mids will destroy us.
Time for another rebuild. Never write this team off, especially after only one game RD1

I am so proud of our team, what a win against the odds, no dusty, prestia, riewoldt, grimes, vlustuin and lambert = No worries!

We did go in smaller and looked quicker on paper, and if we were to topple them we needed to pressure them and move the ball quickly which we did on both counts and it paid dividends.

Our speed and ball movement were awesome to watch, especially from the back half and wings, Short, Rioli, Broad, Pickett, Parker, Ralpsmith were the run & gun players. Gave us so much meterage with their dash.

Yeah it was insane that some were almost indicating that we may as well just forfeit as we were going to be smashed either way.

I did wonder what was going to happen with so many of our stars out, but what we wanted was exactly what we got. We got to see that we have some depth in our squad, those youngsters that some have labeled duds and we should delist purely because they couldn't break into a triple premiership team. Dow showed plenty, Miller showed plenty, we know we have some guns between 21 and 24.

Great win for the Tigers against all pundits write downs Tigers are finished. Guts & determination win games & when you have players like Matt Parker on your list you prove the naysayers wrong.

The resilience of our great team.
A 7-goal shellacking in the final quarter last week, a raft of key injuries in the lead-up.
They regrouped, took stock, and rebounded.
Out of the blocks.
Superb performances by our newer players like Hugo and Matt P.

Unfortunately I think the player and our coach would agree with you, which is exactly why our discipline is woeful.

Give a cheap shot, make yourself feel a bit better at the expense of the team, no big deal. Who cares if it removes any chance they will miss the goal? And who gives a stuff what message it sends to our other players, a Richmond man is a selfish man when it comes to his own frustrations.
There was nothing wrong with our discipline yesterday and I reckon when the young players looked at Cotchin from that game the thing they will take away from it is that a ferocious attack on the football and in the tackle is what is expected. He was immense.

Dow and Parker were good ins, we looked quicker.

Dow got some good clearances, and Parker ran and worked very hard, I should've given him a vote.

The 50 cotch gave away was for a late tackle. Last week all the 50s were for back chat, Manning the mark incorrectly. Cotch was good today. In the contest getting kicks to targets inside our 50. The whole combo in there worked well. Even Dow who I aren't a fan of. Edwards still under performing. Good to see Lynch throw his weight around again
Yeah Chimp's 50 metres was an in play incident. He was just a split second late and pulled out once he realised it. If it was ill discipline he would/could have taken his head off.
The players were good yesterday, silly free kicks had obviously been a focus during the week.

Some of us had that R22 GWS game in mind last year when they absolutely pumped us when we were undermanned.

But a thought occurred to me yesterday while I was enjoying this win. A lot of people were saying our season ended last year when Dusty went down. But we also lost Balta and Broad in the second half of the season. Both were pivotal yesterday.

Dow and Parker were good ins, we looked quicker.

Another thing that stood out yesterday was our speed. GWS aren’t known for their leg speed.

I'd add that, much as the last quarter against Carlton was terrible and showed up some definite problems, we were 20 points ahead in the last quarter against Carlton, in fact, we should have won that game from the position we were in.

The Carlton loss should teach us where we are and the problems we do have (every team has problems) and hopefully we can address the issues.

I remember attending the 1993 grand final, as a guest.
Met the players afterwards, and so on.
All the "experts" predicted Carlton to win.
The indigenous player Michael Long was brilliant.
He broke through the lines.
Great to see similar qualities in Marlion P and Matt P, his best game so far.

Was flying solo yesterday.

My buddy wasn't feeling well with sniffles (covid negative) and decided to stay home.
Joined forces with a loud voiced Tiger stranger sitting a few seats over who proceeded to spend the whole day bagging the absolute crappola out of Razor Ray whenever he got within 50 metres of the ball (which was often).
Then he was bagging the GW Tractors for their backwards play and chip chip kicking.
Anyone within listening distance of this bloke (if you were 50 metres away you could hear him) was laughing constantly.
Had a large chunk of MCC Members level 4 to roam in, you could go to the dunny without queuing up. Get food/drink without waiting.

Even scored 2 free tees outside the ground despite only flashing one membership card.
Was a great day.

As the T said Proud to be Richmond.

Right spot, right time. How many other teams would he get a game for?
He’s gone backwards. Apart from his frenetic running around and fitness.
Can’t mark, can’t handball, can hardly hit a target when he kicks. Now he hardly lays a tackle.
He’s like a canine chasing a car, when it stops and he has time hIs decision making neurons are *smile*.
Many other players cop brickbats for any of the above, but somehow he’s immune from any critique from his fanbois.
Go figure.

You don't win 3 premierships by being just right spot right time. You deserve them.

Quieter yesterday but would have had 2 goals if not for an ARC howler. Good round 1.

He's played over 20 games 5 years on the bounce. Suggest you get used to watching him at AFL level for the duration of this one as well Willo.
