George was good enough to be a best 22 player for the 4 years we dominated the competition. that is not luck.

you can debate his place in the current team, but his performances in our premiership years should not be diminished, and his place in our history discounted as luck.
I didn’t mention “luck” and I didn’t diminish his performances either.
I said he was in the right place at the right time.
Who’s to say his position couldn’t have been covered? Ellis was, Rance was, Butler was etc.
As Dimma states..”It’s not the personnel, it’s the system” (paraphrasing)
I understand my view on Castagna doesn’t sit well with quite a few. But I’m expressing my opinion. Now I know opinion doesn’t always make it a fact. Except in this case it does. :D

Yeah I agree Redfords
And the same thing goes with Sydney too Willos. How long is it gonna take to decide if we sack or back Stack ? (See how I did that ?)

Bloody frustrating the length of time this forum takes to decide people’s futures.

Yeah, we used to be quite definitive once. The old catch cry of
“Dud delist“ was a common theme by all and sundry.
Bloody boring being a winning team. The whipping boys are few and far between.
Booo! (Oops non racist booo)

Well I highly doubt he would have been a triple premiership player at Hawthorn or Geelong in recent times. That says something.
Right time, right place, like many other premiership players in years gone by.

It doesn’t mean he’s an exceptional player or even a decent one. Played a role in a couple. That’s all, nothing another player couldn’t have done. He was never a match winner. Ah the old ”he coulda won the NS if he kicked straight” It was never gonna happen
That’s like saying I could have played and won a premiership if I only some abilit.

Coulda, woulda but didn’t.
Yes, I acknowledged his pace and fitness. 20 games for 5 years is a good return, but nothing that spectacular, he gets more leeway by most.

It doesn’t mean they’re right and I’m wrong. Even Dimma and the MC have received criticism at times regarding their team selections. ;)

No doubt I will have to, I hope he can improve his game, but obviously he’s judged differently to a lot of other players.past and present. Those that were premiership players at that.

Those premierships were in the past. I’d rather skilled players with footy nous, judgement and ability for now and the future. But that’s just me.

Stopped reading when you said being a triple premiership player doesn't mean you are a even decent footballer.

When we played chaos ball, yes George played his role and with that came 3 premierships. The game has changed, our style is changing and George needs to be replaced with it. Dont see why its so hard for people to accept. During the chaos years one of George's main roles was to tackle and pressure, pressure, pressure. The role he is playing now seems to have evolved. Outside of run and pressure George's skills are not AFL standard. We need to upgrade him now and as others have said id like to see Cumberland or another draftee given a crack.

Our game isn't changing as much as we think. Yes have Balta who could massively improve our forward 50 play - along with potentially a dominant ruck division.

But we still rely massively on the ability to cover ground. To repeatedly run defensively to cover exits and switches. To continually pressure and harass. Then when we win the ball to immediately run hard the other way to offer an option. That change in Hardwick's thinking to value those qualities was the largest mindset switch he had that turned out fortunes around. You only need to listen to him to know he still value's that as much as ever.

How much better did we look on the weekend with Pickett and McIntosh patrolling the wings and even other poorly skilled players like Parker working up and back.

That pre-requisite hasn't changed - Our runners (wingers, flankers, pockets) need to have both absolute elite endurance and ability to repeat sprint. All our recent draftees for those roles also had it.

George may one day get replaced, but it won't be until someone first ticks those boxes (plus his massive strength over the ball, the man or in the air). It might be Cumberland, MJ, Clarke (though he's likely further up the field). But it will take time for them (if ever in plenty of cases) to get the elite traits Dimma needs for how he wants that role played.

And that requirement ain't changing in our runners. Perhaps even more-so valued if we play more talls.

Reckon understand that and understand why George's name is written in permanent marker on the team selection whiteboard.

Noticeable that the pressure was much better last week, clearly we still need the players who block space and apply pressure. The game has changed but pressure still makes the opposition disposals less effective, it still works, just got more difficult to do, not impossible.

Yeh it’s horse *smile*.

George was just as critical as Houli and Lambert and Grigg etc

Huge role player that did it superbly. The rule changes have impacted his influence no doubt. But he was influential in 3 flags.

i reckon you have said "luck" using a whole lot more words, and yes you have diminished his performances, saying he would have been easily replaced.

i am not a huge George fan, but he was a key part of our success.

Graham is escaping scrutiny because of his interrupted pre season or lack of it.
Giving away silly frees and hacking the ball forward at all costs are two glaring observations.
At what point do you run him into form in the VFL?

Who was the last 'senior' player to return through the 2's coming back from injury.
If Hardwick has 1 weakness its selecting players that aren't at 100%.
I can't remember a player that has spent time in the 2's before returning

Tried to find a Goal and Mark of the Year Thread. (went 4 pages back)
We have 1 entrant for each category for Rd 2.

Matty Paker v Callan Ward v Mitch Hannan for Mark.
Nankenstein v Lipinski v Mitch Hannan for Goal.

Nank more of a chance to win Goal than Parker is to win Mark.
Voted for both just the same.
Captain obvious and biased call.

Voting closes tomorrow at 10 am.
Get voting fellow Tigers. Afl site.

Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere.
If anyone can find a thread to drop this post into, much obliged.

You’re 100% correct.
Now that we’re in the twilight of our dynasty era, we really need to change that up.
Perfect opportunity to blood young players into the ones whilst injured players get some match conditioning in the twos. It’s a win/win. Young players desperate to hold their spot in the seniors whilst injury returning players show they deserve a spot and provide leadership to developing players at VFL level.
Makes a lot of sense. To me anyway
