Possible fine for Dusty

The AFL is a joke, they don't even see how stupid they are trying to appear all enlightened by saying the Goodes imaginary spear thing was great while tut tutting Dusty.

Goodes imaginary spear and war dance towards his enemies (Carlton supporters) was a joke. it wasn't cultural, it was a dance invented by an u/16 indigenous team 3 years earlier, and if it was so culturally significant why doens't Titch or Buddy or Cyril etc.. do one at every game??

Double standards and reverse racism.

This has got out of hand a bit. All I said was, how come Dusty is facing a fine when Goodes got nothing for a spear throwing gesture. Had nothing to do with racism in any way. Could not care less what the background anyone is. It was a question of why has Dusty been singled out?? End of story

They wont suspend Dusty. They'll announce some fine or something in the midst of the games this weekend in the hope it just goes away.

A week off would make this an issue so big it would rule the airwaves for a week or more, not what the AFL want

To be technical/ pedantic about what Dusty did... If you watch the reply, his fingers were together the whole time.

Nothing to see here.

Technically it was aimed at all non-Indigenous Carlton supporters only.

Imagine if someone came out and said they did a gesture aimed at all Indigenous people only. They'd be sacked without pay (which I'd support!).

If this was last year, pre Goodes' "dance", he would have been slugged $2K on Monday. The AFL has dug a hypocritical hole for itself by condoning the other dances and hence are struggling to work out what to do. They don't want more players engaging with the crowd, flipping the bird etc but they don't want to appear hypocritical. All brought upon themselves by not saying to Goodes and co, OK you've made your point we don't want to see it any more on the football field as we want to keep it non political. Wouldn't surprise me if they just warn Dusty and say in future it will result in a fine.

Did he do a quick scan of that section of Blues supporters and ascertain that it was an indigenous free zone so it good to go for the war dance and imaginary spear?? Please, the AFL wonders why all this ended up where it did

So what? Still not traditional and certainly not recognised by all Aboriginals as such.
So by what standard do you judge traditional Rosy? There are more than 250 nations and 350 languages? The many tribes that attended the Bunya Tors of SE QLD all did them and it happened in many other areas, so what do you base you knowledge on? I find it very frustrating that Melbournites are so ignorant when it comes to all things Aboriginal.

Bull. Goodes said himself that the AIS kids had made up the dance. His words. I have not voiced my opinion at all on this issue because I want it to just go away. It has nothing to do with football IMHO. Keep politics and PC crap off the field. Dusty was a naughty boy. Nothing more. Nothing to see here. Move on. PLEASE. ::) ::) ::) ::)
I would back my knowledge of all things Aboriginal over yours any day

The afl should be fined for taking so long on this!

as Chimptastic said earlier - i think the AFL are in a pickle about it and over-referencing other things that may or may not have happened on the football field at other times this year. 8-

Do you want a medal?

Cobbling together a bunch of unrelated actions to create a NEW dance is by it's very definition.....NOT TRADITIONAL.

If you don't understand the difference....then that's your problem.

Goodes' dance was about as "traditional" as Zumba!

Im gobsmacked....so Dusty in the process of responding to feral magpie fans gets pulled up for giving them the bird ? Bugger me ...look at the scoreboard.....These days are fated to be filled with AFL wonders....... :p

I think it's you that doesn't understand "tradition"

A tradition is a belief or behavior passed down within a group or society with symbolic meaning or special significance with origins in the past.[1][2] Common examples include holidays or impractical but socially meaningful clothes (like lawyer wigs or military officer spurs), but the idea has also been applied to social norms such as greetings. Traditions can persist and evolve for thousands of years—the word "tradition" itself derives from the Latin tradere or traderer literally meaning to transmit, to hand over, to give for safekeeping. While it is commonly assumed that traditions have ancient history, many traditions have been invented on purpose, whether that be political or cultural, over short periods of time. Certain scholarly fields, such as anthropology and biology, have adapted the term "tradition," defining it more precisely than its conventional use in order to facilitate scholarly discourse.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tradition
