Pick 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

Just about the only place I've seen anyone panicking over Vlastuin is on this board on this thread in the last two pages. I think you all need a Bex. I'm not saying you don't have the right to be nervous, hell yeah we've earned that, but this kid ain't JON for god sake. Our first round picks have been solid or better for a while now. And we might not take him anyway!
I don't know if Vlastuin takes Xfactor hangers or kicks impossible goals. But from everything Ive read, and the little bit Ive seen, he sounds like a warrior. And we know which team are Premiers right now don't we. The one with more warriors.
Well said TTT.

Toumpas looks to be off to the Dees, port have supposedly committed to Grundy and the Dogs don't want anymore inside mids. Brisse supposedly looking for a CHF.

Could we actually land Wines? I really don't want to get myself excited.

DRAFT NEWS

The Herald Sun can reveal GWS will select devastating outside midfield stars Lachie Whitfield and Jono O'Rourke with its first two picks before calling the name of key defender Lachie Plowman at No.3.

It means Melbourne will land Adelaide's Jimmy Toumpas with pick 4.
...
Ollie Wines could quite easily be overlooked by the bulldogs who have a surplus of inside midfielders.

The dogs are firming to take Troy Menzel and Jakson MaCrae.

Port Adelaide have all but committed to Brody Grundy whilst Brisbane are still tossing up between Sam Mayes and Kristian Jaksch.

It means that the tigers could land the best inside midfielder of the draft with Wines looking likely to slip to Richmond in a dream result.

This started as the outside chance, but has been talked up by so many people (including me) it will be disappointing if it doesn't happen now

I agree that we need mids aswell but there will be plenty left at our other 3 picks, the talls will be slim pickings by then.

Fair enough, I get where you are coming from and to be honest I have been fairly underwhelmed by most of the mids available around our pick.

I do however have concerns about the way the game is heading and would not like to see the list top heavy if we go to 2&2 on the bench next year. I can see a team having a ruck, a full forward, a full back, and the a whole bunch of 188cm flanker types who can play anywhere. The traditional team structure will be dead.

Reckon Jaksch is the smoky-ripper (and mad Tiger supporter to boot).

Ollie Wines looks the goods but is he THAT much of a standout?

Jaksch has something...his timing and hands are fantastic AND he's played at both ends of the ground - pretty impressive kid.

I'd rather play for Melbourne than the souless AFL farce that is GWS.; At least the Dees are a real club. It sux that the 3 best players are going to the GWS jokers.

Need more Bevo around this place. "Souless AFL farce" & "GWS Jokers". :hihi

Wines... dang!

"It sure is quiet out there..."
"Yeah, too quiet"
pause
"I sure picked a bad week to give up sniffing glue!"

My hopes are sky high as well. Give it a 20% chance. But last week it was 1.63%.

I keep telling myself “fat, slow midfielders with ok disposal don’t go top 5 in the draft”, I’ve almost convinced myself.

wines is meant 2 have the better engine but with FJs focus on footskills, who is the better kick between wines/vlastuin?

Assuming Wines doesn' drop to us, who are you hoping we get?

My goodness!

That would be amazing.

Would have to be Vlas. He's the better leader as well. I wouldn't be surprised if we call out Vlas' number even if Wines is available.

Long term, I see Grundy being the pick. Think a more mobile Ottens with a better jump but not the brute force.

But Port would be nuts to overlook him. If he is gone, I like Jackson Macrae. Has the one skill you can't improve, time with the ball.

OK - Toupas looks good but if Melbourne pick him that kind of shows what a joke their drafting is still. Wines - best mates with Viney tough and complementary to each other. Melbourne would be nuts not to take him..

Would be shocked if we took anyone but Vlas.

no way,

melbourne should take Toumpas everyday of the week ahead of Wines ILO.

be crazy to overlook him.

You dont take guys at pick 4 because they are mates with someone else you've drafted

Agree Leysey.

It would be a complete joke if they recruited someone because he is best friends with a player.
