Pick 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

According Brett Anderson we're hoping to land Vlastuin, Wright and Atkins with our first 3 so I would say there must be some chance.

Would be a very solid draft if that happens. Atkins might be the best of the lot. Think Nick Dal Santo.

I can't help but think Dan Connors with Atkins, it's just a hunch but alarm bells start ringing when a guy gets booted from the AIS, really struggles at state level and runs hot and cold at TAC level. When he's good, he's damn good, but the gap between the good and the bad is significant. The other concern I have is his lack of accountability, he really needs to work on his defensive side and make an effort to get involved when the chips are down. The Dal Santo comparison is an interesting one, his balance and evasiveness is very Dal Santo like but his 3.06 20 metre sprint times weren't brilliant for a guy who likes to break defensive lines and take a few bounces. To put it in perspective, he's slower than Brandon Ellis and Shannon Hurn but with a much slighter build, it will be interesting to see how that translates to AFL football.

To put my comment in context, I know sfa about the juniors, but I can't help feel a little underwhelmed by the thought of landing Vlastuin at 9.
If he can't find it 20 plus times at junior level playing in the backline how will that translate to finding it 20 plus times as an inside midfielder at AFL level?

This is the very thing that concerns me most about Vlastuin, I would be shocked if we overlooked Grundy for a player who may wind up being a back flanker.

So if we're going to dream a little and begin formulating our Christmas wishlist, Wright will be selected by Richmond at either pick 32 or 34. I'll also make the prediction that he'll be playing seniors next year and will become a bit of a fan favourite. If he's available, I'd say FJ will be all over him, the only dilemma would be if Nick Graham was also on board, that would be a tough choice indeed.

Agree bully, Wright and Graham would be terrific gets at 32 and 34, btw i would take graham over Atkins as his numbers at TAC level are very good, also very good by foot which FJ luvs and his over head marking is quite strong.....For our last at 43 if he's still on the board id grab Spencer White....apart from the buddy resemblance something about him that says he could well become a star....He kicked 36.12 in 16 games....

Nick Graham

Thanks for the Spencer White footage AT, I hadnt been able to find any. I know its a highlights reel, but .... Wow. VERY buddy like, even got NO right foot. nice kicking action, moves beautifully. Dont forget at the draft camp he recorded the highest vertical jump AND the biggest mits. Word is hes a *smile*, but so was buddy. I couldnt give a stuff if he shares a house with Dan Connors and Brendon Fevola, If he is on the board at 32, I hope we call out his name.

I just watched the Spencer White reel again and realised it not a highlights reel, it 2 games!!!!! Bully H, can you be so kind as to titillate us all with one of your sublime synopses on this bloke?

Looks very nice does White , almost Buddy-esque! But is he a case of the man-boy?

Re: Pick 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

spencer looks to have better skill, co-ordination, kicking action, etc than buddy. all be it at jnr level.
he could really turn out to be something this kid...
would love to take the punt with him at pick 43, maybe even 34. could pay off big time!

im very much liking atkins for pick 32 also. couragous, can take a mark, and has great zip, run and carry & evasiveness.
would be perfect on a wing for us. and will prob help solve our outside running mids hole.

For those in the know, who would be a good replacement for Tuck in this draft?

Inside mid & Ruck are our 2 most pressing needs.

Vlastuin would take over - in 4 years time - from Tucky I would think.

Yep from what I've seen, Vlastuin is pretty much a slightly quicker and much better skilled version of Tuck. Could take over shortly after the old man retires and perform the role to a high standard

Vlastuin will be playing with Tuck's kids well into the future. That's how confident I am he will make it at AFL level.

Vlastuin is probably the safest bet to play 150 games, the upside probably isn't as high as some of the others but he has AFL footballer written all over him.

Vlastuin will be delisted before Tuck retires

That is one of the more ridiculous statements I've heard.

I would hope that one of either Batch, Arnot, Conca, Ellis and/or Helbig may already fit that bill...
