Pick 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

davidrodan said:
How come we have 6 picks in the ND?

Out
Connors, McDonald, Webberley, Browne, Post, Moore, Graham
Chaplin, Knights, Edwards
In

7 out and 3 in, which gives 4 picks, have I missed anyone on the main list?
Maybe we put Newman on the veterans list, so that could be 5 picks

But scratching my head at 6 picks, has list numbers changed :headscratch

thought the same. perhaps Tuck is now a vet? i think they were going to change the rules to make it anyone over 30.

Just listening to SEN all talk has turned to Whitfield, Menzel and Plowman in first 3 with GWS.

GWS is one of the clubs best placed to take somewhat of a risk with Menzel seems its not so cut and dried that would really toss things up a bit especially if Tippett is allowed in the draft.

Toumpas, O Rourke, Wines, Grundy, would drop back and whether or not that impacts any other decisions who knows.

Talking about Corr, Jaksch and Vlastuin as mooted for the Tiges at #9 right now on SEN.

Bloke reckons hes heard some talk.

Jaksch I wouldn't mind. Corr isn't worth 9.

Talking also that Atkins might be a target for the Tiges in second round that we may pinch him ahead of the Bummers who are keen on him.

Maybe the RFC is thinking a tall with #9.

That begs another question if Grundy falls to #9 what then ?

Is it just foxing and sending out false signals

SEN is the least reliable source when it comes draft rumours, I'd take it with a grain of salt.

Nathan Wright - Without beating around the bush too much, Nathan Wright is my type of footballer and I would welcome him with open arms if he landed at Richmond. He's your classical tough and uncompromising player who hates to lose a contest and he's got an attacking flare which at times is reminiscent of a raging bull. He's got all the attributes that should see him succeed at the highest level - strong marking, a big tank, impressive agility and a sound work ethic. That he also comes from a Tiger supporting family makes Wright an even more desirable commodity, I'm certainly a sucker for a slice of sentimentality, and very few things give me greater pleasure than seeing a diehard Tiger pull on the jumper for the first time.

Having listed many of Wright's positive traits there must be a hitch, right? Well there is of sorts but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a deal breaker. I think if there's one thing that I learnt last season from our original kamikaze kid, it's that perceived imperfections can recede into the background if one chooses to play to their strengths. I'm talking of course about Steven Morris and his alleged kicking deficiencies. Now one could never label Morris as the Rolls Royce of punting, at times he can look a little ungainly, but the bottom line is he makes the correct decisions more often than not. This is pretty much where Wright stands, his action isn't poetry in motion, but nor is he a turnover merchant. If the odds are stacked against him with any available kicking options, he'll handball, and if that isn't on, he'll kick to a genuine 50/50 contest. In short, he plays well within his limitations and plays the percentages to the best of his ability. He's what I consider to be a very coachable lad and someone who could slot into the side with relative ease.

So if we're going to dream a little and begin formulating our Christmas wishlist, Wright will be selected by Richmond at either pick 32 or 34. I'll also make the prediction that he'll be playing seniors next year and will become a bit of a fan favourite. If he's available, I'd say FJ will be all over him, the only dilemma would be if Nick Graham was also onboard, that would be a tough choice indeed.

This kid reminds me of Nigel Lappin. Would be a very nice addition to our squad.

Should clarify they are talking to Brett Anderson and Mick Ablett. So there may be some truth to it. Not some random muppet calling up. :hihi

I really hope that the Tigers take the absolute best kid available, no matter what position he plays and in this draft, do not reach for a player. Seems that we may have a list which may not include some kids expected to slip but if due diligence is undertaken, these kids names should also be included on the list so we do not overlook anyone.

If Geelong are hoping to get Stringer, I hope we have looked at him too before discounting he is not the 'one'.

What the heck would I know though - I do not have a clue but I really hope we are not left feeling cheated after this draft. Having said this, every year we have high hopes for a kid and when we dont get him we get upset only to see that kid disappoint at the club that got him. Sometimes the best rated do not turn out to be the best so we have to hope the player chosen works out in the end.

Thanks for the write up BH. I would be ecstatic if he lasted to pick 32 but somehow I doubt it.

He's a dashing line-breaker like Lappin and he's also very good overhead. Interestingly, he likens himself to Stephen Hill, I'd agree to a point but I think he's much better than Hill in one on one situations.

Wright reminds me of Heath Shaw with Alex Rance's attack on the ball and kicking skills.

Do you think there is any chance he will last until our second pick?

According Brett Anderson we're hoping to land Vlastuin, Wright and Atkins with our first 3 so I would say there must be some chance.
