Pick 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

Richo always had the highest skin folds at the club too.

I reckon Relton Roberts would have beaten Richo by a few hamburgers with the lot.

Im going up to the draft and if Big Grundy Pants is available after pick 8, Im gettin' the chant going. If hes gone, I might try start a Dayle Garlett one. We are surely only 1 CHF/CHB (hopeful, but not banking on griff), 1 electric fast mid/fwd black fella and some real ruck depth away from being top 4? Pick a couple of speculator CHF/CHB types 195+ with last two picks. I reckon if we are confident of Dom Tyson coming home in 2014, our midfield is pretty right for a 5-10 year window.

Dimma suggested on the RFC website we will be looking at an extracting mid who can cover for Cotch and Dusty when resting forward as our target for pick 9.

Yeah, Relton, probably farmer had him beat, but i remember an interview with Richo saying how he'd try and avoid the skin fold test, never came out looking to pretty.

Didn't seem to affect his awesomeness though.

Who knows, maybe if his skin folds were lower he would have been a better set shot.

Just on Hrovat he had the highest skin folds of anyone at the draft camp.

It's the reason Allen Christensen slipped to the Cats pick 40+ a few years back. I don't think it will deter recruiters that much though. still a late first early 2nd rounder I think.

No he didn't, in fact there has been no hints at all. Only tip I picked was that Chris Stubbs when talking to Craig Cameron on the trade wrap asked him if we would pick for need or best avaliable. Craig said best avaliable was our policy then went on to say that we will definately pick best avaliable at 9 and maybe think about need after that. Impression I got was it may not be a midfielder first up and if that was the case we would take 2 midfielders at 32 & 34

Cannot post the quote here but if you haven't seen it you might want to read the article.

I reckon Mr Magic is right, the article was written after Dimma spoke on 3aw (i think) the interview is on the rfc website and was more talking after the acquisition of Knights that we are after a second group of mids to play when cotch and dusty arent in the guts. He didnt refer to us taking a mid with pick 9.

Consistency. He's very much a cameo performer at this stage but yes, he's capable of mercurial things. He's far from a sure thing though, probably not worth risking pick 9 on. And he won't last till 32, so no point really in discussing him as an option.

Inconsistently brilliant or ordinary? I'd take a put on an 18 year who was occasionally brilliant and develop him into something more. We need a bit more brilliance from our top order draftees.

garner is an interesting one. 14 goals from 8 TAC games and in the words of his coach

Fits the bill of a v.capable forward who can rest dusty and cotch in the MF. Good size too. Big query over his shoulder. Pops out with monotonous regularity. Could he slide to 32 because of the rubbery shoulder? He'd have to be Dimmas type wouldnt he? I reckon we should just draft kids with surnames starting with G. Grundy at 9, Garner at 32 and Garlett at 34. Dreamin I know, but thats what you do at this time of year.

Yeah fair enough, what he does do definitely still warrants a decent selection but his worth IMO would be somewhere between 9 and 32. I wouldn't be happy spending pick 9 on him. Have a feeling North, Freo or Collingwood will take him 1st round. If he didn't go missing as often he'd go top 10. The other thing is he is purely outside and there are questions on whether he can develop any inside game at all.

No chance Garner goes after about 20. He is rocketing up the boards. If GWS don't take Menzel at 3, they will take Garner at 13.

Gee Plowman shows a bit - much love for him on here ?
Would be another quality young defender, would fit in well with the emerging backline so to speak once he develops. No dramas from me if we drafted him.

Garner has less exposed form than the likes of Vlastuin and the shoulders are a worry but as Yeats says, he's an animal. I like him a lot. Would be happy with him at 9.

Averages 4 tackles a game. Says he can mix it to me. OK so he's not a clearance machine - but he'll run you down if given a sniff. We don't have many of them either.

I know I've only seen the highlights - but I really like the look of Simpson - a dead ringer for a young Mickey O. Why isn't he being thrown up as an option - what's the knock?

He's a terrific player with pace and poise plus he's a good decision maker. Chatty type as well and very determined.
The knock on him might be that he has a tendency get frustrated when he's not playing well and that can be a distraction for him.

i'm hoping we pick up Sam Mayes or Taylor Garner both would be great gets. medium forwards and capable of midfield time as well. Just what we need.

Edit: Garner is a Tiger supporter :clap

There's a big chance Menzel will slip in the draft due to his knees.. With his injury history he's a risk as a top ten pick.. He's done both his knees already and i would say as a result this led to his groin injury.. His brother has done his knee twice.. very risky
