Pick 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

.....anyway I reckon this Membrey may be worth a look ;)

Maybe not at 9 but if we're lucky enough to grab him in the second round I wouldn't be disappointed.

The draft is a lot like Xmas as a kid to me ,use to get really excited about a certain tonca truck or donkey kong game been under the tree, then just get disappointed when it wasn't there, so now take very little interested in watching juniors play, coz been a spoilt brat of a kid I wanted about 20 presses an was so bloody upset when I only got 4 especially if any were hand me downs... So now there is no letters to Santa, just a little excitement on the day, a bit of reading of the instructions an what potential uses they have....do however greatly appreciate the views of other posters thoughts on the kids.....anyway I reckon this Membrey may be worth a look ;)

The draft is all we have had to look forward to in recent times.
Being in QLD I don't get to see any games that aren't streamed on the net so I have to rely on that, what I read and highlights clips. So I basically know nothing. With that in mind, Macrae is my new favourite and the one I want at 9. But I am certain we will go for Vlastuin.

Just had a little squiz an Vlaustin TD , looks a very solid citizen, dare I say it but wouldn't mind a little x come Xmas time in the Garlett variety, really believe we need the outside silk of a Hill, Jetta type....massive massive benefits for us with that type

I've just got a horrible feeling that Garlett will go the way of Franklin, Clark, Darling and Rioli. And the worst part of it is that he's odds on to be wearing black and white.

Don't think Garlett will get past 13/14.

GWS are definitely in a position to gamble, as are Collingwood. It will be interesting to see who eventually takes the plunge but after Darling dropped so far, anything is possible.

I'm a bit torn on this one but Garlett has a skill set which is just too hard to ignore, there's others like Macrae and Vlastuin who have their selling points but Dayle brings something to the table which is a rare commodity. After watching Jetta tear it up this year, I'm just reminded just how important these burst players are to a side. And in my opinion, Garlett is a much more rounded footballer than Jetta, his kicking is better, his inside game is better and he is capable of kicking freakish goals.

I'll call it now, if he lands at Collingwood he'll be a bonafide star. If Carlton take the plunge, I reckon Malthouse might just be the one guy who'll put him on the straight and narrow. If he lands at GWS, I'm not so sure.

As for Richmond, I doubt we'll go near him. Shame really, because he's the type who has the potential to drag the punters through the turnstiles.

A bit of talk that grundy might slip depending whether gws take him at pick 3, if he was available at 9 would we take him over say a macrae or Vlastuin

Would take care of our ruck depth, miss out on adding to our midfield depth or a grade talent.

Doubt he will fall as far as us, but would be happy if he did.

Does that 6 have better quality and variety than Cotchin, Deledio, Martin, Foley, Grigg and Conca?

Don't forget O'Keefe, Goodes and Lewis Jetta. They are now your 5th,6th and 7th best mids and still capable of winning games for you. Past the first three we don't have any game winners or breakers.

Sheedy will be confident he will be able to get some good out of him.
My thoughts exactly, as well as a few other reasons I can't see him getting to Collingwoods first pick anyway.

Will be an interesting draft.

Agree. If for some reason he slides he will not get past Collingwood or West Coast.

Will not be available at any of our 2nd round picks.

Carlton have no interest.

Wouldn't be surprised if GWS snaffle him up at #3, but he should be around at 12/14.

Thinking the top 11 will go something like this :

1 - GWS Whitfield
2 - GWS Toumpas
3 - GWS Garlett - a smoky but could well be worth it at #3
4 - MEL Grundy - the best ruck will fill a real need for the Dee's
5 - WB Wines - Think the Dogs might go a Wines/Macrae combo but wouldn't be surprised if they went Stringer at 6 (screaming out for this type)
6 - WB Macrae
7 - PA Mayes - homegrown talent I don't believe they will pass up
8 - BL - might go Membrey if Karnezis or Cornelius get booted during the week
9 - RFC Vlaustin/O'Rourke/? who knows, alot of good midfield talent available
10 - ESS Daniher
11 - CFC Plowman - have shown some interest

GWS if they are after Garlett will take him with one of 12/14. They certainly won't use 3 on him.

Maybe not. I think Garlett will still be around later on anyway.

Would be funny if Tippett got picked up at #3!

Thoughts on Josh Simpson in second round? If we pickup a "safe" pick at 9 with someone like Macrae or Vlastuin then Simpson IMO (from what I briefly saw on TV championships) would be a good contingency plan in the likely event Garlett is picked. Having said that from what I'm reading it would be a good idea to take the punt on Garlett at 9?

Wines to Melbourne seems to be the word, Grundy to GWS at 3 (surely they can't overlook another ruckman), I think the Dogs will go with O'Rourke and one of Stringer, Ploughman or Membrey, Brissie to go Macrae and Richmond to go with Vlastuin or Garner (although I would back us to pick Macrae if available).

Similar to what I think.

Whitfield
Toumpas
Grundy
Wines
O'Rourke
Plowman
Mayes
Macrae
Vlastuin
Daniher

Skillz I doubt Karnezis will get dumped as he is contracted for next year.

Word from CC in an article today is that we are all about increasing midfield depth and will have 4 picks.

Have a feeling he'll go before Garlett.
