Hey guys and girls whats this mooted swap pick 9 for 12 and 14 trade which is effectively 11 and 13 after Daniher is taken.
Would many go for that cos i definately would theres gotta be a catch though which wasnt stipulated be it a player or our second pick im sure.
Is there any substance behind this, 11 and 13 could nab say Vlastuin and Kennedy for example.
Is this just a nonsense rumor that just got my attention.

Craig, this was mentioned to Blair Hartley in his chat yesterday. Someone asked him about swapping pick 9 for picks 12 & 13 from the GWS. His response was 'I like your thinking'. So the assumption has been made that we are going to look at improving our draft position or gain more picks inside the top 30.

Definitely a good strategy. I would do it even if we had to give up pick 9 and a player (Post).
Like you said that could give you Vlastuin and Kennedy. Or could allow you to take a risk on say a Garlett, hedged with Vlastuin.

Steve Wells was the first to do it 3 or so years ago and was well ahead of the rest of the comp's recrutiing managers on this process. We finally woke up last year with the Elton (pick 26) + Krakeour compo for our Bock compo pick (courtesy of the Tambling). I understand this was initiated by Gold Coast rather than us, however, we have now clearly seen the benefit and obviously taking a pro-active approach this year.

For that to work, GWS would have to rate Post higher than anyone they can pick with 14... Reckon that's likely? :spin
The only way this trade will work is if GWS can only take 4 picks in the ND. Which I doubt will happen if they have 14 at their disposal. Surely they'd delist the last ranked player on their list and replace them with pick 14 rather than only taking 4 picks and sticking with whatever else they have.
Even if they did only want to take 4 picks, they'd be looking to upgrade to the best possible pick with 12 and 14, and I can see Brisbane, Port and especially the Dogs outbidding us for them.

i suggested this as a possible trade a week or so ago, and yes it is based on the premise that GWS only want 4 picks, and yes it was based on our trade with the Suns last year.
to me who knows nothing about juniors trading pick 9 for 12&13 is most likely a pretty clear win, trading pick 8 prob so, but getting up to pick 6 like the doggies have i am not so sure. depends on who the recruiters rank i guess.

GWS have about 8 spots on their list available so cannot see this even being considered.

I think it's 7 spots. Rumour is they will sign Jed Anderson and Jake Neade from NT which takes up two of those. They are also likely to trade for a couple of old guys to replace Power, McDonald and stuff with pick 62/63.
That may cut them down to 4 especially if they don't lose Giles.

Will be interesting to see which club we try to bargain with to elevate ourselves up the list order.

One of my work collegues is a recruiter and thinks this bloke is in the top 3 in the draft.
The knee thing is a risk but it was also for Joel Selwood .
Will be interesting to see.
From what i hear Geelong are moving heaven and earth to get him.
