Pick 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

IMO, we still need the best player available mentality at Pick 9.

I agree. Can't mess up with our first pick.

Don't think he will slide past Collingwood or West Coast in the first round.

Re: Pic 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

not buying into the vanilla arguments.

im uneasy about the strategy of using our first pick on x-factor types.

anyway dont matter what we think we have a good track record of recent so im confident more so than ever that we will do whats right for this club to move forward

Re: Pic 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

Lewis Jetta, Mitch Morton, Adam Goodes.

Takes all types & we definately lack a bit of flair forward of centre ILO.

Even Ben Kennedy would give us that little bit of flair. Not as much as Garlet but would still add some goal kicking and flair.

I don't mind vanilla types but in this draft, we can still get those types with 29 and 31.

Re: Pic 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

I like Garlett a lot but like others you have to be worried about his alleged 'issues'

I'd hope if we had done our homework and believed we could handle whatever his baggage may be I'd take him at 9.

Re: Pic 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

Reckon FJ will either jump on Garlett at 9 or he won't even have his name on the books

Not sure how Morton got mentioned in the same sentence as Goodes and Jetta but I get your point Leysy.

Re: Pic 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

In this draft we can still get our bread and butter midfielders with our second round picks. I am extremely confident of that. If we think Garlett is the best we have to go for it. We are a little one paced, we need some breakaway pace. We need zip, we need class and midfield X factor. You won't get that in the second round.

Richmond makes play for GWS midfielder Dom Tyson

RICHMOND'S desire to snare Greater Western Sydney midfielder Dom Tyson, 19, could be aided by the Western Bulldogs.

The Tigers are intent on securing the prized onballer, but have met resistance from the Giants.

But the Dogs could help by being party to a three-way deal, which will be raised during this week's draft camp.

Under the proposal, the Tigers would send pick No.9 to GWS for Tyson.

The Giants could then on-trade pick No.9, and the first selection in the mini-draft of 17-year-olds, to the Western Bulldogs. In return, the Dogs would hand picks No.5 and No.6 to the Giants.

It is understood Richmond and the Bulldogs are in favour of the deal, but may have to include later-round picks or players to sweeten the package for the Giants.

GWS was last night playing hard ball.

"It is absolutely not going to happen," Giants football chief Graeme Allan said.

While the sticking point is Greater Western Sydney's reluctance to move Tyson on, the plan would make the Giants big winners at the national draft.

It would give Greater Western Sydney picks No.1, No.5 and No.6 next month.

Tyson, a Trinity Grammar School and Oakleigh Chargers product, remains open to a move home to Melbourne after returning from holidays this week.

While the 2011 No.3 draft pick is contracted for next season, talks this week will help make clear whether the left-footer wants to remain at GWS beyond his current deal.

The Western Bulldogs are keen on gaining the first pick in the 17-year-old mini-draft to nab classy Western Australian utility Jack Martin.

The goalkicking midfielder would provide the pace and polish for which the Dogs are searching.

The Dogs will not part with picks No.5 and No.6 for Martin alone, but would be willing to do a deal if they receive pick No.9, originally belonging to the Tigers.

Under special AFL rules, GWS has the ability to trade access to the country's two best 17-year-olds (born between January-April 1995).

Re: Pic 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

Looks like a fairly exiting threeway to me. Everybody gets a little bit of what they need and thats what trading is supposed to be all about.

Re: Pic 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

Pick 9 for Tyson?

Hopefully GWS comes around.

Potential pick 9 kids

whats the chances of us picking up either membry or stringer?
i reckon these kids are going to absolute stars.
i know we have a decent group of kids at the moment to fill the forward line role but i have a gut feeling about these blokes

Jake stringer - big power forward. excellent kick for goal
Tim Membry - a tad smaller i think but similar in the kicking and marking department

thoughts

I would have thought that pick 9 is a bit high for both players.

I also think there are enough classy mids available for us to pick one up at pick 9: Wines, Mayes, Vlastuin, O'Rourke, Toumpass, Garlett, Kennedy...one of these guys will get through to our pick 9.

JON, tambling. we dont have a good track record with these types thus we should definately stay away from garlett at pick 9. if avail for our second round then maybe then. but we cant risk stuffing up pick 9.

Ancient history. We should, if anything, have learnt some important lessons and be better placed from experience. Timidity and fear have no place in footy. Do the due dilligence, and if it works out, go for it. Draft whats in front of you.

Rioli, Egan, Mitchell. Whose to say garlett isnt 'one of those types?'

Agree, well said.

At the end of the day, the interview at the combine will say the most. With Dimma's mandate, we will not draft Garlett (or anyone else) if the recruiting team have questions over his character.

Not quite the right comparision. Bling and Jon's attidtude was fine, just crappy footballers.

A more relevant comparision for Garlett would be Troy Taylor.
