Pick 29: Shai Bolton

RFC will just be deeming Failmantle's picks at #13, 14, 22 and 32. And eh, if we lose Shai we may very well bid early on Kako.

Failmantle holds #13, 14, 22 and 32. Points that, Fugmuntle, ya *smile* boat *smile*.

Looks like a dead heat there Jack.
We're not paying any Shai salary, Mo. We'll be paying some Sean Darcy salary next year for a draft pick.

creativity required i think Jack. gonna be interesting.
We're asking for 13, 14 and 22. They're offering 14 and 32. We'll be using the hefty salary Freo is eager to pay as evidence that our request is based on evidence from them. We'll get 13 and 14.

13 & 14 is unders for Bolton. Way unders.

Try again Freo. We'll have Treacy & 13 to start proceedings. Just remember he's contracted for 4 more years.

RFC controls this, TT. We know that. RFC fans will all be able to negotiate ten top five picks for Shai and Freo fans will get him for pick #32.

RFC knows exactly what we can get and roughly who we can pick up there. Part of our agenda here is to bottom out before the Tasmania disaster. That's crucial.

We'll probably put a deadline on our offer. And we are involved in other deals. We'll be copping a teen pick for Baker. That will be contingent on the Barrass deal. And we'll be trying to trade up. Time is a factor, TT.

My thinking is that we'll pull the plug early if 13 and 14 aren't on the table right real soon. And we'll probably cop something around that. Meanwhile Richmond fans will get ten top-five picks and Freo fans...

People's focus on the draft pick being diluted or sliding back due to academy or F/S picks is incorrect. It doesn't matter if Ashcroft, Kako & Lombard get selected at pick 1 or 101 - they are out of the pool of players available to us anyway. The only pick that hurts will be the compo that the Saints get for Battle - so fingers crossed he somehow stays with the Saints, but that's unlikely now.
So if we get say pick 9 from Freo, we get to select the 9th best available player. Assume Ashcroft goes pick 2 & Lombard 6, our pick 9 becomes 11 but we still get access to the 9th best player available as we were never getting these 2 bloke anyway.

Yes, the draft is basically with Ashcroft, Lombard and Kako removed.

They are just a nominal number as they are basically discounted to the nominated clubs and pretty much unavailable to other teams. Just a question of where they are bid at.

Likely Battle compensation pick should probably be included and means picks after St Kilda drop back 1 position.

two ways of looking at it.
we get the 9th player available to us.
or the 11th rated player.

Just so long as we factor the f/s and academy kids in/out of the ratings.
And comparing across the years.

Also it doesnt matter as we'll pick the best kids!

Just on Freo, these are the results we need this weekend in order of fixture:

1. Pies to beat Dess which will be temporarily put them above Freo but with still no chance of playing finals:)
2. Carlton to be St Kilda guaranteeing a minimum of a Freo pick 9, (make the finals and they happen to win a few the pick could balloon out)
3. Port to beat Freo and pick 8 will be on the table for Shai.

OR
We beat the Suns (or Saints beat Blues) to ensure the Suns first pick remains at 5 for the Rioli trade
Actually want the Pies to lose for 2 reasons:
1. They are Collingwood
2. The Freo pick is aligned to them.
We want Suns, Pies & Freo to finish as low as possible - not saying we will get all these picks but likely 2 of the 3.

The max. result I think is

Melbourne beat Collingwood by any amount.
Richmond beat Suns by 10 points (Or lose). (Pick 1)
Hawthorn beat North by under 65 points if Richmond win. (under 75 point swing with North)
St Kilda to win or lose by less than 50 points (Depends on the Richmond Gold Coast result)
Fremantle to lose to Port Adelaide ( Or Bulldogs, Hawthorn and Carlton all need to win)

Gold Coast pick 5
Fremantle pick 8 and 10

If Essendon beat Brisbane (unlikely)
Fremantle pick 7 and 10

If the best we can do for Bolton is picks 13 and 14 then it’s time to hand the keys back!
He is quite possibly the difference between Freo being in flag contention and heading into the prime of his career and we’re prepared to give him up for 13 & 14?
Must involve a pick in the top 5 or forget it. All this talk of Freo not being able to trade their first round this year isn’t our problem. You want Bolton well this is price. We don’t care how you get it but don’t come back until you do.

Thing is that it's $hai that's talking about going back to W.A. Obviously hasn't been much of a noise from the Frockers that they actually want him or that they're very interested in paying much to get him as he's very expensive.
Might end up being a couple of weeks of yeah nah, *smile* it it's all to hard so nothing happens anyway.

Frockers coach said-
Speaking to 7News Perth on Tuesday night, the Dockers coach admitted that while he is yet to get in contact with Bolton, he would be a great asset to his club – should he choose to join them in 2025.

“I haven’t, he’s obviously contracted, so (I) respect that contract and in the end, the ball is in his court,” Longmuir said.

“I haven’t met him … Clearly someone of his ability and someone of his experience would help us become a better team.

Great asset to his club make them a better team.
Pay up Frockers 2 first rounders One pick should be top 5

God. How many journalists hv written thier opinions on our draft hand this year. Don't think any two of them have been the same outcomes, just guesses...... all of em. Mind u I don't think hardly any of them have us with more than our own pick under 10.

This. If we’re going to lose an asset like Shai then we have to receive maximum value. Same with Rioli. They are both contracted. So either pay up or *smile* off!
