- Ken Sutcliffe is terrible just really is clueless and provides nothing.

cereal? i haven't watched any of the ch 9 coverage (why would you if you have fox?), but gee, they like to hold onto their dinosaurs, don't they? just look at the ch 9 cricket team.

Great win by the Boomers. Paddy Mills is great to watch.

Yesterday I saw an analysis that showed that Australia's poor showing at these Olympics is definitely linked to the introduction of the Carbon Tax.

The fact that the two have happened at almost the same time is too much of a coincidence for me. Damn you Julia.

Damn now you have blamed her, she will have to come out in the media and blame Abbot.

i'd like to know the amount of federal funding for olympic athletes in the 4 years prior to sydney compared to the 4 years prior to london.

Michael Diamond choked down the stretch.....should have been his 3rd gold medal, choked again in the bronze medal shootout.

Yeah watched a bit of that this morning. Missed none out of 125 then 6 out of 29.
A choke if there ever was one. Bad luck for him.

I was listening to Gary Honey talking about it yesterday. The part of the funding he blames is out inability to pay our coaches enough and they just get poached by other countries. I can't remember their names but he listed out some of the coaches who are working for other countries and it was quite a few.

Hehe...

Just read about the Bulgarian hurdler Vania Stambolova who lived up to her name by stumbling over the hurdles in the 400m hurdles.

Unfortunate name for a hurdler.

Whats bothered me most about this Olympics is not that the Aussies keep getting Silver and Bronze its the fact we are continually being beaten into these spots by Britain ffs.

A dud sporting country accross the board for so long this was always going to happen as soon as they won the Games they spent a dead set poultice on training and sports over there to have success when their turn cam.

They also pinched a lot of our top coaches too.

Its nauseating watching them win everything, ive given up just cheering for the Aussies am now cheering everyone to beat England.

Micky Diamond what a disaster for the poor bloke shoots a world record 125/125 to qualify then falls over with 6 shots to go by missing 3 of his last 6 or whatever it was.

Dissapointing Games but reality is when you dont put the $$$ in you dont win, also many of our athletes are too busy suffering Gen Y itis having holidays and tweeting and facebooking.

Kudos to Slingsby a feel good moment after disaster in Beijing congratulations young man great effort.

I like this.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/01/olympic-medals-map-gdp_n_1729090.html

interactive medal board where you can click 3 different options control for population and GDP. Changes as medals are awarded. Granada currently in the international lead with 1 gold medal. USA shrinks to very small. Currently Jamaica, Cuba, Denmark, Slovenia, Mongolia, NZ, PRK (ouch) big winners. We are still doing pretty well, have just done incredibly well in the past.

I hate this 'country that spends the most money wins the most medals' philosophy. Its like a medals arms race. And people think that the Olympics aren't political. Coates and Gosper....anyone?

their funding dollars are way higher than ours thanks to a new lottery being established in the late 90's with all the profits going to olympic sports.

Guess it comes down to how many millions of taxpayers dollars we are prepared to spend to win gold medals to make us feel good about ourselves for a few days every four years while scoffing down fast food and pepsi.

With all the Silver and gold medals i heard today that some were already labelling London 2012 the SHRAPNEL GAMES :hihi

I think we have come to over rate our sthletes after the sucesses we have enjoyed at recent Olympics.

I still well recall Montreal, Moscow, LA and Seoul.

It's a pretty fine line. If 4 or 5 of those Silvers were Golds we'd all be saying what a successful games we've had. Australia actually won quite a substantial amount of medals; just not enough golds for most peoples liking.

Demographically and economically we are pretty similar to Canada; yet we've won quite a few more medals than them. And we are doing better than Japan, so it's not really that grim. We still punch above our weight class.

Looks like the Opals play the US next game.
If you haven't seen Candace Parker before....she's the best player in the world imo,
Hope she's off her game for the Aussies sake! but the US don't rely on any one player anyway....full of quality.
Don't see us getting up we've been playing ordinary.....expect 25-30 point loss tbh.
Candace is actually the sister of Anthony Parker who retired from the NBA last season.
He played for Toronto and Cleveland.

We gonna need Jackson and Cambage to go berserk and have monster games to have a chance.

I've really been getting into the water polo. It's a great game to watch.

Aussies vs USA womens just starting. Should be a gem
