Olympics 2012 - London

Now guys like Slater, Brayshaw, Fat Eddie and Dwayne Russell can return to commentating on sports they understand.

Oh wait a minute...

Agree on all except Dwayne Russell.
I liked his Equestrian Commentary. He did his research, but always spoke within his limitations, and allowed Lucinda Green to do the technical stuff. Old Dwayne really was a surprise, along with Peter Donergan, the 2 best broadcasters of the games IMO.

now there is talk about melbourne bidding for the 2024 olympics. no thanks. it was a good idea 20 years ago when it was still big, but times have changed. i'd much rather the football world cup anyway.

I can't stand Dwayne Russell as a football commentator, but he was pretty good at the Games. I think a lot of it had to do with Lucinda Green and her rambling commentary, her wife swapping comment was absolutely priceless.

Thought the olympics were fantastic. By far and away biggest and best event in the world
Totally agree, glad I have Foxtel and didn't have to put up with 9's abysmal coverage of it.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Olympics this year. I guess having 8 dedicated channels helps. I am probably in the minority, but really enjoyed Brayshaws commentary at the rowing. Thought he and Tomkins worked well together and their enjoyment really came through. I loved their work in the Aussie k4 gold medal race, had a ball listening to them.

Leggatt as a commentator really frustrates me, has a great knowledge of the sport, but makes so many mistakes with names. Really gets under my skin.

Thought Shirvo was good in the studio with Eddie, and loved the studio segments with Thompson Johnson and Christie. Three champion athletes that know their *smile*.

Personally I can't wait for the next games. With a bit of luck, and if the boss sticks to her word, we will be heading to Brazil in 2016.

Agree loved the Okympics and watched a fair bit of it.
Especially loved the Aths, Usain Bolt is a freak and a joy to watch, has the best easy going personality. Also found a couple of more sports that were good to watch, BMX racing thought should never be in the Olympics but is good to watch, as with the ominium in the cycling, surprisingly enjoyed the team event of synchorisined swimming, was like watching cirque du soleil.

Unfortunately dont have Foxtel but did see it at friends place, so will look into that for Rio, especially as Rio has better time zone.
The Olympics is the hardest event to cover with so much happening at once and do you show Aussie athletes or the big events. Thought in terms of covering 9 were similar to 7, showed a lot of swimming ( remebering 7 did and made Bruce cover it for first few days rather than aths) and put replays at silly times.
My disappointment with 9 is their commentators, their freelance ones and expert ones were great like Donegen, Deeks, equestrian, hockey, basketball ones etc but they were on channel 7. Karl, Sutcliffe, Slater, Cameron and Leila were terrible, the guys in the studio were really poor. Unsure what sport Ken Sutcliffe knows as he is clueless he doesnt not even know his fellow commentators names. Ovett and Thompson were great and a good coup.

Personally still thought we did well at the Olympics 7 gold, 35 medals. I know worst since Atlanta but still great effort just the Poms stopped us in winning golds in Rowing and Cycling. Disappointed with level of criticism in the papers by people who just watch the medal tally rather than the sports. Still a lot of aaussies made finals in their events.

Regarding funding for sports, its hard for Olympic athletes as in all honestly this is the only time for majorty of them they get exposure, none of the sports at the Olympics are on free to air television. However you cannot put more into sports than health, police, emergency sevices and education it makes no sense. Without knowing where sports funding goes to perhaps more looked at sports at school or at the expense of Afl, NRl and cricket from goverment funding as sure they get enough monies from tv rights and sponsorship than olympic sports.

Would love to see the Olympics again in Australia and especially in Melbourne after seeing it live in 2000 which was the best time ever.
However monies probably betterboff in more important services, though they can get rid of grand prix.
I think the AOC would support a Brisbane bid.
2024 is too close to 2000, with Rio having 2016 and Madrid, Istanbul and Tokyo bidding for 2020, unless we are bidding against Baghdad only in 2024 we will not get it. From reading 2024/2028 Paris likely to be interested, south africa, Canada, Usa, losing bids for 2020 would more likely get it than us, though it does mentioned Australia likely to be interested. Think 2032 maybe the bestbid chance or earliest chance.

Attention mods please include Paralympics too.

On that subject I just watched Ahmed Kelly a.k.a. Liquid Nails probably qualify for the breast stroke final. Amazing story and the result of the support of.an amazing woman. Get around him.

How was the final in which Pistorius got beaten. The guy who won it took off like a rocket.

Feel sorry for him. The run from the guy who beat him was to impressive to believe. I hope they check out the claim thatthe guy had blades that were too long.

A 2 year old gets me up early most mornings and I'm not complaining at the moment because I'm loving watching the paralympics. Unfortunately, the ABC coverage in the evenings is more about the comedians than the athletes. I don't know why they are doing that becasue the athletes are much better to watch.

Finished 4th in the final. The story of Ahmed Kelly and is brother Emmanuel is inspiring. Their adoptive mother Moira Kelly is an inspiration, an amazing woman who is also the carer for Krishna and Trishna the former co-joined at the head twins separated a few years ago. Maybe she has adopted them now as well, not sure.

Bio

Born in 1991 with significant disabilities in all four limbs, Ahmed Kelly was left at a Baghdad orphanage where he spent the majority of the first seven years of his life. Then in 1998, he met Moira Kelly from the Children’s First Foundation, who brought Ahmed and his brother Emmanuel, also born with limb deficiencies, to Australia for medical treatment.

After undergoing surgery to remove the deformed sections of his lower legs, Ahmed learned to walk with the use of prostheses, and before long, he began to run. His inspiring recovery soon led him to his first sporting love, Aussie Rules Football. He joined his local team in Kilmore, Victoria, and quickly earned the nickname Nails because of his “hard as nails” style of play.

His toughness, skill and determination helped him progress rapidly as a footballer, but when the sport eventually began to take its toll on his body, Ahmed turned his attention to swimming in 2008 and he has not looked back since.

After competing at his first international competition, the 2009 Oceania Paralympic Championships in Darwin, Ahmed has gone on to claim back-to-back 100m breaststroke crowns at the Australian Championships (2010 and 2011), with both victories coming in world record time. He is now among the favourites for gold in his events at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London. Ahmed has been coached by Brad Harris under the Melbourne Vicentre Swimming Club since 2009.

Hoping to make an impact at his first Paralympics, Ahmed will have two very special supporters behind him all the way – his adopted sisters Trishna and Krishna. The conjoined twins were separated during more than 27 hours of surgery in 2009. Ahmed says the support of his sisters pushes him a couple of metres forward in every race.

And now charged with murder. All on Valentine's day. Shocking

How unfortunate it appears he thought she was an intruder......then again she was shot 4 times which sounds strange.

South Africa is the number one murder capital in the world and he was obviously paranoid, why was his missus just getting in at 3am anyway?
She must have had an idea about his fears of home invasion.

That said I find it extremely hard to believe this was an accident.....he knew who it was imo.

That seems to have been a media line Jukes. The cops have said premeditated murder.
