Eddie Bett's EH looks nippy.

Was a mixed back from the big fella. Very competitive in the ruck, some good contested marking but tbh his kicking leaves a bit to be desired. Hope his nickname doesn't become Shankervis.

Most top rucks take awhile to hone their kicking, that's in part why they take so long to get going. You get the odd exception like Cox & Ryder but most fit into the Grundy, Sandi, Mumford category. As he refines his game he'll start handballing more, this is definitely a case of playing to one's limitations.

The beauty about nankervis as a foward is that he is a really strong contested mark & also if he doesnt mark the ball neither does his opponent and he 'Halves' the contest which is just as good as a mark , So long as you have the right players playing in the foward line.

By the right players i mean smart, skilled, quick players like Betts,Rioli,Edwards,Lloyd etc

Rioli - Riewoldt - Edwards
Lloyd - Nankervis - Bolton

The above is just an example of the type of formation that could create havoc even if the ball is not marked in the foward line and is extremely liquid in its formation to really kick goals if the ball is delivered fast into the foward line.

There wouldnt be many teams that could handle 4 small , smart fowards in their backline

an inside 50 for a defender, with that lot in it, would be like getting smacked in the face with a block splitter and then covered in bull ants.

compared to an entry when TV was down there, when for the defender, it was more like waiting for the road to be asphalted, then getting the 'GO' sign, and then all the little bits of oily gravel rain up under your chassis.

good post. When he is resting deep in the forward 50 he will be a danger. Probably Jack will play further up the ground when that happens.

Plonk a 198cm contested beast in the goal square who can take a grab and defenders get nervous

There were some funny old kicks, but he was having a go. Shows he doesn't just see himself as a ruckman. He thinks he's a footballer.

He wasn't the only to shank a kick!

I've just noticed nankervis is the same age and height (pretty much) as McBean but obviously the Nank is a fair bit heavier. So that's another example of a really clever player upgrade by the recruiting team.

Yep Nankervis is the perfect age to pick up a ruckman. A few years in the system at a club where he can't get a decent go. I just love the way this guy plays the game. Just held his own really way against an experienced ruckman last week. At 22yo he's only going to improve. We have picked up a good one.

Amazing the similarities between Mathew Kruezer & Toby Nankervis at the same age

Even closer in 2016 but MK has more games and game time but Toby is tracking well

Mumford didnt get to Toby's numbers until he was nearly 25 so Toby nankervis is where Mummy was at when he was 25

giving Paddy Ryder a clinic around the ground.

Paddy Ryder was one of the best around the ground ruckman in the game.

Nankers is ours for a decade. Its the decade of carnage.

The passionfruit icing is, we got him from Sydney, while they keep paying lumpen Titbit a million bucks a year.

Love Rance's letting the 'Widow-maker' nickname out in the postgame interview :hihi - reckon that comes from his aggression on the training track as well as on the ground.
