Nankervis !!

Has started well in the practice games.
Aggression. Tick.
Ruckwork. Tick.
Kicking still needs to be tidied up.
He's got time to work on his deficiencies.
Id sure rather have him than not at this point.

Love his ability to contest the centre bounce, then be ready to tackle an opposition mid try to clear through the circle.
Creates the 4th mid for us against 3 when the ball hits the ground.

Give a mid coach so many more drill options.

Hang your head in shame for missing the great Disco.

:-\ That was totally unacceptable. Especially as he was THE man during my Cheer Squad days

We've got the best full forward
In the game
We've got the best full forward

And his name is Michael Roach
MICHAEL ROACH - CLAP CLAP CLAp

Really bullish about this bloke.

Gives a very physical presence around the stoppages and CAN take a contested mark.

Was that the chant in 1980/1981? If so, it's terrible. Where's the rhyme? :hihi

I remember hearing a group chant "Disco, Disco....." in the tune of the 1980 Moscow Olympics song.

Point 2 - So if HOs mean so little, why do we still have the 200cm+ giants in the game. Why won't PA persevere with Trengove, your hero, as first ruck now that Ryder and Lobbe are back? Having obtained the lowest HO numbers of any club in 2016, along with a drop out of flag contention even more dramatic than ours', would have nothing to do with it? I could add many more points but it's just useless trying to communicate with someone so dogmatic.

Leigh Matthews, a man of detached reason about the game, recently observed that Sandilands was the most overrated player. It wasn't as personal an upbraiding as it sounds; it was a measured assessment of not just the player but the position.

"They [Dockers] lose the clearances every week," Matthews said recently on 3AW. "Hitouts are useless, it's only what they contribute to the clearance, running the ball away from the pack.

....

Mark Thompson, in response to Matthews' recent comments on Sandilands, said he broadly agreed with the four-time premiership coach.

"I've never placed a great emphasis on ruckmen either," Thompson said. "But when you haven't got one and you're playing two young kids against someone like Sandilands it does make a difference."

One club's ruck coach said it was difficult to assess the value of ruckmen because people tried to distil their game to statistics that were inadequate and misleading, because the intangibles of a good ruck were unquantifiable.

"What value do you put on a big bloke having presence? What value do you put on a bloke who knocks midfielders over, blocks and puts the wind up them? None of those are stats.

"The ruck stats are basically bulls--t anyway. Hitouts are the most useless statistic ever. You can only look at hitouts to advantage and even then you have to look at clearances and scores from stoppages. You can be putting it down your midfield's throat but if they fumble, get tackled or don't clear it then that is not your fault.

"We never used hitout figures, they are a complete waste of time, they are nonsense. Hitting the ball first means nothing if your team doesn't clear it.

Haha I remember that one Baloo!

Its to the tune of "He's got the whole world in his hands ...."

Another religious offering from the grog squad?!? :rofl

I'm amazed Bomber doesn't rate rucks, considering Ottens single-handedly won the 07 prelim for him. He's right tough when he echoes Jack that the most important thing about your ruckman is he not get dominated. If he can get a kick, even better. Which is why Nankovic needs to grow the mullet his cult status and importance deserves.

I think the nickname The Widow Maker would just about do that.

Given his attitude, appetite for the contest and his desire to compete it would be so good if Nankervis could have a big and sustained impact for the Tigers this season. Has the potential to bring plenty of his team mates into the game with his second and third efforts at the ball.

I know we need him in the Ruck, but i reckon he would be more than capable as a forward.

I really think a team walks taller having a hard big man in the side. Could be worth more to us than just his individual output.

Yep. Hit outs from a ruck are only a small part of their value. Their presence, aggression around the contest, bullocking, blocking, generating their own clearance. Their filling of space around the ground, contested marking, distribution of ball around the ground to their mosquito fleet, even drifting forward nailing the occasional sausage. All the great rucks through the years have had a sack full of these capabilities.

He doesn't kick it well enough to make it as a perm forward.

Actually hope the Hammer plays (earns) a few to ensure we don't bludgeon Nank through overuse.
