More on Morton

Agreed we need more of this type, I've said as much a few times. We are last or second last in these crucial areas year in year out after all.

Look I'll agree that Tuck isn't a blue blood midfielder but he is definitely good enough to hold his place in a 22 and maybe like Rodan, if we had more effective midfielders he would be able to slip the leash a bit more. He is also the only ruck rover we have so damn useful to throw his body around.

tuck would only be useful in a scott burns type of role, starts on the bench and comes on later for a bit of crash and bash

when he is in your top 3 midfielders you know your in trouble

i've been pushin the Masten wheelbarrow for the last month or so all my points have been well documented.

Maybe another angle on Masten is to ask how much better is Cotchin?

Cotchin's strengths are his first 5 metres, kicks well off both feet, and is a good well rounded footballer at schoolboy level.

Masten's strengths are always finds alot of pill, class inside mid and has scrubbed up well against men this season.

IMO Masten is the safest bet against Morton and Cotchin plus his type is what we need.

Having said all that its a hell of a tough decision to make and i'd be happy with either one of these players.

Morton is the highest risk, then Cotchin.

gee we really do live in fear because of our previous drafts don't we ;)

I agree we do live in fear due to our past, this draft is unbelievably important too our future we cannot stuff up this time!!! That is why i am also against Morton because i don't think his upside is much better if at all than Cotchins but i think the chances of him failing are greater.

I don't think we can afford to take another risk, If the rumours of West Coast overlooking Cale for Cotchin or anyone else have any resemblance to the truth that would ring alarm bells right there for me if i was recruitment officer at Richmond

I say go for a bloke we know is going to be a good player not another bloke who has potential to be a good player

Its funny this draft, the recruiters I have spoke with think the top 3 Morton,Kreuzer,Cotchin are simply outstanding talents but except for Kreuzer the other 2 seem to have huge question marks which is amazing for 2 of the top 3 but it also could be the normal BS you get from kids on forums.......no direct insult intended more talking about BLOS

I was thinking the same thing CC Tiger.

I can't believe I am saying this as I am always keen to develop Juniors, but it makes you wonder if a good trade (eg. Brock McLean or Ben Reid) should be considered if it becomes available as part of the Judd deal.

I haven't seen Cotchin or Morton play so I am not knocking them at all but they seem to have some question marks hanging over them.

Would Rance, Ebert, Masten, Palmer or McEvoy be safer options or is it simply we expect too much of 17 yr old kids ?

Rance is a very likely type and the exact sort of tall this club is crying out for.

Id take Rance ahead of Morton to be honest if it came to these 2 as to directly address a void in team structure at FB.

Rance at FB 195 cm specialist FB would then allow for Willy T to play as a 3rd tall. If a Tate Pears type CHB was available then id take him also to be the next Tiger CHB.

This set up makes the Tigers defence much more structured, athletic, and talented.

No offence to McGuane and Moore but they dont intstill much confidence in me long term, in fact Moore will be retained and thus waste another spot on the list this guys been at RFC for 3-4 years and played 20 odd games .............. shouldve been delisted last year absolute joke.

Am a bit tired of flankers with x factor, they dont win premierships, hard bodied skilled players with smarts, commitment and guts win you premierships.

RFC has too many passengers as it is.

every kid has negatives, its because we have pick 2 we have a fair idea of the top 3 and thus try to examine every facet of their game

will kreuzer be able to play 1st ruck at afl level?

Yes Rance does sound like an exciting prospect and there is no doubt we are expecting too much of Will Thursfield ATM. I'm not sure if he will ever be big enough to wrestle the likes of Jonathan Brown and Pavlich.
Third tall would be perfect for him and I can see him developing into a player similar to James Clement - whoops I have gone off the topic :hihi

Even Caro was going on how RFC were super keen on Morton on AW tonight. She also said WC were super keen and hence why they want pick 2.

More on Thursfield, he has said that he is only allowed to put on 5 more kgs for the rest of his career.

This makes Rance an even smarter choice if we can trade up (pick 2 is a bit of a reach isn't it?) because Thursty will take the endurance forwards and Rance could take the stronger marking stronger ones.

Back on to Morton, could be possibly take over from Joel Bowden in the same role?

I'm surprised at the negativity towards Cale - the kid can actually kick! He will make Schulz and Hughes kick goals through his foot magic!

All 3 have massive question marks over them, Kreuzer may end up a poor mans Josh Fraser

Sounds like he may want to leave and go to the Pies fairly soon in his career too

Kreuzer, Morton, Cotchin, Masten, Rance, Ebert, Palmer and Henderson can all play.

A combination of Cotchin or Masten or Morton or Ebert and Rance would do me.

We do desperately require a quality midfielder and a specialist tall Key Back, and to get 2 of the above would be a good result.

Trade up for another 1st rounder Mullet.

Because they know how to recruit.

WC or FREO were super keen on JON as well weren't they? Is Caro implying our recruiters look over the Eagles fence to see who they want and then go for it? We'll be suckers forever with this policy. How many bum steers will it take till we make our own decisons.

The key to who we pick up in the draft will be determined upon what happens during trade week. If Mitch Morton finds his way to Punt Road during trade week you could almost guarantee his brother will follow.

Why do you think that, Irockz?
