all im saying is that if i had a choice he would belong in the "runners" group moreso than being a feeder

if he gets fit he might be starting in the square more often but atm its hbf/hff
He's just a kid, expect him to be played as an outside midfielder for a couple of years yet, but don't be surprised if he's a Dal Santo type. Don't think he's fast enough to be a pure runner.

I agree is Fitness is poor no arguments there.if he pulls his finger out and does the hard yards then his fitness will improve.Geez you make it sound like his fitness level atm is set in concrete.

i dont understand all the hype on mitch morton either, eagles didnt pick him in the semi against the pies when they were smashed by injuries and instead went for a 20% fit hansen and a kid like mcnamara, shows how much they think of mitch, stunk it up for claremont in the gf last week also

another danny meyer?
im pretty sure by the time the semi came round Mitch had made it clear he was looking elsewhere. Not so much the hype but the potential of the kid.

What's with all the bagging of Connors fitness? First preseason and first year of senior AFL ? VFL football, of course he's not yet fit enough to be a genuine onballer. Like all the kids coming in he needs a couple of years yet to build his motor.

Agree TM, how can people query Connors' fitness in the future. IMO will be a star on baller.

As for the Cotchin v Morton debate, I haven't seen either of them play but Evo reckons that Morton will be better than Kouta, Franklin and Pavlich - that'll do me

yes he can build up his fitness but he'd want to if he even wants to get it to about average because at the moment it is well below par

spending time between the bench and back pocket/forward pocket at vfl level shows he is a long way from being a mid in the afl, connors will be a quality player but the reason his name came up is because madcow thinks he can be an inside onballer but i just dont see him being an 80 minute centre square player going from contest to contest, more suited to the flanks imo

So you definitely prefer Cotchin, eh? Sight unseen. ;D

Yep, purely on Evo's view that he will be better than K, F & P. Evo's may have a lot to live down making that statement.

After earlier watching some video of Ebert I would stay well away from him. All through the interview he kept saying how much he loved Port Adelaide and how he hoped to play for them. At the end he tried to be politically correct but even then said something like "so I don't really mind where I end up playing but I would love it to be the Magpies."

First two years at club X then back to Port he will go.

Great pick up K3!

Interesting reading this thread as I was one who wanted Morton over Cotchin back in 2007. I was sure Cale Morton was going to be a tiger after we got Mitch to the club, and at the time I would have been stoked if we landed both.

Boy am I lucky I'm no recruiter.

So who did you want at the time? Cale Morton or Trent Cotchin?

My leaning towards Masten is because as the saying goes - you need to crawl before you walk. I just think we need to address the most important part of football first, our most pressing issue, that is our inside clearance work. Once you get this up and running, it becomes easier to address other areas. Better and more effective clearance work assists your outside runners and gets them more involved also places less pressure on them to win the hard ball, it gives the forwards better delivery, and it takes away pressure form you defenders. Better clearance work will make Tambling and Deledio more effective and dangerous, will make Riewoldt and Hughes better forwards, and make Polak and Thursfield better defenders. All of a sudden things start to fall into place. Your inside on-ballers are your ingnition. I'd love to see us stack this draft with inside on-ballers. 2.Masten, 18.Grimes, 19.McGinnity, 35.Polkinghorne would be a dream for me. I know other areas need addressing also, but hard, tough, inside footy always prevails, and we'd improve immensely if this occured.

You are a very smart poster.

Enjoy reading your thoughts.

My philosophy on pick 2 is simple - get the best, most talented kid through the Punt Road Door. That player without a shadow of a doubt is Trent Cotchin. People have now been caught looking sideays and around at the most ugly word in football "X Factor". We have been bamboozled by it while teams like Collingwood and Hawthorn have just got the best footballers through the door. End result - we a poor developing club never see the X Factor flourish, while those two good developing clubs, see the natural talent enhanced. Pretty simple really. If we just draft the best FOOTBALLER the rest will sort itself out.

On the sources - mine is pretty strong and it is all over the Cale Morton to Richmond, the minds have been made up. Cant wait for Cale to be the new whipping boy at Richmond while the anguish as Trent Cotchin being a Superstar daggers the Heart again.

This club will NEVER learn.

In fact all i,ve heard is Cotchin will be a very good HFF who can occasionally get a run on the ball.Which leads me to think why we will take Morton with pick 2.His brother Mitch also linked with us.I do recall Mitch would have went top 10 when he was drafted if he wasnt picked up by the eagles under the F/S rule. Mitch very much is in the Cotchin mould so why not kill 2 birds with the one stone?
Oh *smile* that's gold Captain...Morton in the Cotchin mould :rotfl

Cotchin. Talk all year Cotchin/Kreuzer were the top 2.
