Re: Welcome Matthew Arnot

Well, Let's hope he turns out like Batchelor in his first year who no one rated. Some people really Sh!t me with their own specialised judgements of players.

Think of the 300 or so players that nominate for the draft EVERY year in a WEAK or SUPER draft that miss out on selection.

Who knows how they'll turn out.Keyboard Coaches evewrywhere.....

I can confirm what WT says here.
My brother was sitting between 2 Oakleigh officials when they read out his name.
The 2 officials looked at each other and said "what the f*** are Richmond doing?"

B1

So sounds like that guys rant on Arnot was at least part right.

Hey Jimmy, you haven't told us who this guy was and where you found the rant.

Wouldn't be one of those perennially angry guys who stalk forums with an axe to grind would it?

At a guess I suspect Arnot may not have the best tank.

Not many 87kg, 18 year old endurance athletes out there.

Has a pretty tough couple of years of training ahead of him I reckon.

By his build I suspect he is a pure power athlete, so more suited to repeat short bursts. But that is fine, at pk55 he will given time to develop endurance etc.. at Coburg. But also judging by his build he isn't afraid of hard work.

Re: Welcome Matthew Arnot

Only Richmond supporters, 3 nights after the draft would be second guessing pick 55 with some ready to court martial and hang the bloke.

I wondered why I'd been staying away from this forum of late....now I know.

Re: Welcome Matthew Arnot

Its pretty common knowledge for a while that Richmond dont talk a lot to players clubs.

A - Because they probably dont think they get much truth out of officials blowing smoke up there players arses.

B - It tells the industry which players we are into.

Leysy will have a crack (& has done plenty of times over the years) at our recruiting if he see's fit, but this is a complete non-issue.

Sounds like that post from wherever it is, is jumping at shadows without knowing how we operate.

Yeah, it’s a non issue for me. I do sometimes think it is very odd for a club to watch a player for two years and then ring a club and say “we are really keen on player x, what’s he really like? Don’t tell anyone we called”. Even if the Biscuit fails, it’s the right type of player we require. I can handle that.

We'll see soon enough who's a better judge of talent. Francis or the officials.

Agreed, I hope he makes it, I wan't trying to bag the kid, just reporting what the Oakleigh officials said.

1600 nominated for the draft this year.

Re: Welcome Matthew Arnot

From the highlights this kid looks like he could be a Sam Mitchell Mk II in a few years.

Arnott's a touch taller and more solid and has a better kick on both sides.

No pressure!

The draft was held in Sydanee, were the Oakleigh officials at the draft watching in case some of their boys got picked or was your bro down at the Oakleigh clubrooms watching the draft with the locals.
Just seems strange to me that club officials would be surprised about an AFL club picking up one of their boys late in the draft, even if he is deemed a bit of a smokey

No my brother was in Sydney at the draft (works at the AFL).
He said the Oakleigh guys thought he might get a rookie spot but that was all they thought.

Agreed TM.What type of official would react in the way these so called Oakliegh officials did when one of their players was lucky enough to get selected to begin his dream.Did they have the same reaction to Tyson?

There was stunned disbelief in the room on thursday when his name was read out. No recruiters sitting near me could believe their ears

The stunned disbelief was for the pick before ours... :hihi

NEW RECRUIT James Sellar is good enough to be in Melbourne's best 22, according to coach Mark Neeld.

Melbourne is bad enough for James Sellar to be in it's best 22. ;D

You don't think Richmond officials expressed suprise when Jake King got picked for Australia? The Oakleigh guys could be both happy for Arnot but suprised he was taken. I mean Arnot finished in a tie for 7th place in their B+F. He played 20 games and tied with Tyson who played 10. He doesn't play for Vic Metro, and by the finals series he is starting on the bench for Oakleigh. So yeah I can easily believe they were suprised.

Exactly Lennox - apparently they were very surprised but also very happy that another one of their boys got picked up.

Re: Welcome Matthew Arnot

His highlights look ok, I am sure the Tigers have learnt from the JON experience. Shouldn't we wait a couple of years before criticising our #55 draft pick? Frankly who cares what Oakleigh officials think, maybe they don't have great recruiting acumen.

Totally agree GO, I'm not bagging him - you are probably right that FJ and co. most likely are more proficient at sourcing talent than they are.
I hope he turns into a long term good player for us and will be right behind him.
