Robbo just tweeted this;

Nick Riewoldt learned the news of Lyon's departure while in hospital. In and out of consciousness. It was apparenlty knee surgery

What a way to treat your leader and someone who actually loves & bleeds for the St Kilda football club.

This is one of the more amazing days in football for a long term. Lot to wash out from this. Some of it will take years.

Reckon this stinks to high hell. Ross Lyon has taken a list that was already very good and bleed it for all it's worth. No future planning, no building for tomorrow and no long term plan. The entire time Lyon has spoke about "The Bubble" and commitment to the St Kilda football club. .Really feel for blokes like Lenny Hayes, Nick Riewoldt, Brendon Goddard, Nick Dal Santo & Sam Fisher. Ross Lyon has deserted them. Dumped them cold.

Welcome to the new age of football. Ablett, Bomber, Scully, Lyon & free agency around the corner..
Footy becomes more professional and less romantic by the day.

At the end of the day it's just another business decision which in essence is exactly what the AFl has become. No loyalty anymore when there are chequebooks being flung about. I don't blame him for going. he has a family to look after and he would be stupid to pass up on an offer like that. Is he worth it though? I doubt it.

From NSW, to Vic, to WA.........I wouldn't be happy as a kid.

I'm just glad that our club has been using common sense of late and endeavouring to keep away from treacherous 2-faced people...it's about bloody time other clubs are starting to get screwed over.

I did it and I turned out semi ok...
Bugger the kids just keep the cash flowing in. They will appreciate it when they are older.

Saints players will be rightly pissed. While they are striving to get into the finals and extend their season the coach is speaking to Freo about going there and deserting them. He preaches loyalty, retires a few players without telling them and then ups and leaves.

The whole ESP thing is quite staggering.

And then for Freo to suddenly in the middle of a meeting call Harvey out and tell him to leave straight away....what a way to treat a loyal servant of the club.

The whole saga is quite astounding.

I shouldn't mention it, but would this be a somewhat similar scenario in late 1975 with Tommy Hafey?

Just happened last year with Bomber Thompson - had been arranged whilst Geelong were still in the finals and covered up by lies from both Essendon and Thompson.

A bit off subject, We could talk to Harvey about a role before someone else does. I think he would be a very helpful proposition...

This is bizarre.

Personally, I reckon (being here in WA) that the wiriting was on the wall for Harvey. I thought that once his contract expired that would be it. He was never comfortable in front of the media, and I think was quite distant from the Freo fans.

But to sack him like that for Ross Lyon?

Reckon it is one of the greatest coups ever. Well done Dockers.

Couldnt disagree more.

Leysy's money is on this backfiring on the Dockers. Big Time.

Not many coaches can upturn their gamestyle & what they preach. Lyon will need to do that to coach teams at Subi. Good luck. You wont win games by bottling the ball up there.

He churns through assistant coaches like leysy does Swedish mistresses & wont have the extraordinary "Buy in" from the Freo leaders like he got at St Kilda.

Then the undoubted fallout from some players & staff in the Freo football dept. Unrest aplenty.

7.5 M contract over 5.

Good luck Fremantle. Leysy thinks they'll need it.

Think I'll take a wait and see approach on this. Unlike the Aints the Dockers have an excellent list with some real young talent.
Lyon will have more to work with. Wouldn't write them off that's for sure.

Ian agrees with Leysy, this is the sort of thing that tears at the fabric of a club, poor decision by both Freo and Lyon.

Reckon Harvey could be an option for one of the open jobs, Melbourne should probably have a look at him.
