Mark Harvey Sacked- Official

Wow.

Talk about deserting a sinking ship! This has to have been on the table for quite a while. I was wondering why Freo suddenly became so inept on the field over the last couple of months and why they were running out of players. Harvey is not the sharpest tool in the shed but he seemed to have done a decent job at Freo, making plenty of hard decisions for the long term future of the club.

This seems an odd decision to me. If I had to find the worst possible gameplan for the wide flanks of Subiaco it would be the Ross Lyon SCG/Docklands shuffle. How on earth does he expect to lock his opposition down on those wide open spaces?

Strange choices all round.

I wonder what Paul Roos thinks of his protege now? Surely this play is not from the Bill Belichick/New England Patriots/no dingbats playbook?

It is fun to see other clubs imploding. Freo dump Harvey on a whim ( undeservedly), Lyon makes himself a hypocrite and a mercenary, the Saints quickly unravelling and Melbourne standing by dumbfounded.

Heh heh, I'm sure he will defend Rossy.

Reports are that Lyons management were negotiating with Saints while Lyon did his own deal with Dockers. And Craig Kelly manages both plus Garry Lyon.

Just amazing the whole thing and we are not involved!

Rumour of a 5 year deal worth $7.5mil

5 Years !!! Given that he goes through about 5 assistant coaches each years, there's not enough assistant coaches in the league for him to last that long!!!

St Kilda are the winners out of this ... he has been behind some very dumb list management decisions over the past couple of years that have probably cost them a couple of premierships.

little whisper pavlich is involved in this and its all happened since mad monday

freo are a basket case

Wow what an afternoon and wont Barret have a little stiffy tonight on TFS.......

For what it is worth, Lyon has disgraced himself on face value. The guy has been preaching loyalty for the last few years and then gets up and leaves with a year to run on his contract. His is no good thing to do any better with the Dockers either as their 2 big names are nearly done and what happens if the players don't take to his rigid style. As for Freo, I can understand them thinking we might be able to get someone better so lets do it but what message does this send to the playing group, especially the ones that rated Harvey.

Years ago when I was playing, I had the honour of training alongside and listening to the likes of Neale Daniher, Harvey and a few other big names and Harvey was the one that impressed me the most, this could come crumbling down on Freo like you would not believe and Tigerland would be a better place with him around.

To finish off I think there will be more big names leaving the Saints and Dockers now, the Saints are finished as contenders, I hope the Dockers fall flat on their face and personally I think Harvey is the better coach and clubman and Lyon has left the saints list in a complete mess the selfish pryck.

Yep it's good to sit back and see the *smile* hit the fan at other clubs. Been a fascinating night listening to it all evolve on the radio. And Melboune missing their man after Scully earlier in the week is very enjoyable.

That's my thoughts too. Strange.

Reckon this stinks to high hell. Ross Lyon has taken a list that was already very good and bleed it for all it's worth. No future planning, no building for tomorrow and no long term plan. The entire time Lyon has spoke about "The Bubble" and commitment to the St Kilda football club. .Really feel for blokes like Lenny Hayes, Nick Riewoldt, Brendon Goddard, Nick Dal Santo & Sam Fisher. Ross Lyon has deserted them. Dumped them cold.

Meanwhile, Mark Harvey has made hard long term calls and built a list that is in very good shape for the long term. This year Freo were doomed by the football gods. Nothing Harvey could do. Nothing any coach can do. Harvey has been shanked, jail style. Didn't even see it coming. No one did. Now Ross Lyon has seen that Freo are in great shape long term and has sleezed his way into the job. Good on Craig Kelly for sacking Ross Lyon from ESP. Shown some real leadership & character. Traits that Ross Lyon is critically lacking in.

Wish Freo nothing but failure and defeats for as long as that gutless wonder is in charge.

So this is what we looked like throughout the 80s and 90s.

Sad.

may be a interesting year for the dockers next year .Lyon's first year at the saints was pretty ordinary whilst they learned the gameplan .

To me Lyon has proved that he can build a team with great discipline that sticks to a game plan but as others have said its not a great gameplan for Subiaco . he hasn't proved that he can develop young players however and imo leaves St Kilda in a very vulnerable state .

The older players at St.Kilda could see their premiership dreams going up in smoke if the new coach foreshadows a total rebuild (which TBH is what is needed). Is there anyone at St.Kilda we'd be interested in, if they were out of contract?

it looks like we have finally passed the baton onto the Shockers/Saints....
both of these clubs are rabbles at present....lol

Ross Lyon mmmm is he trust worthy and a man of integrity...nah

Gary Ayres has put his hand up for the Aints job.

AFL clubs have only recently openly given players from VFL/WAFL etc a 2nd chance. Will it take another decade before they give sacked coaches a second chance?
