Mark Harvey Sacked- Official

And then for Freo to suddenly in the middle of a meeting call Harvey out and tell him to leave straight away....what a way to treat a loyal servant of the club.

That was shithouse.

Even by the low standard of competency Steve Harris has set himself, Fremantle members and football followers alike have been shocked by his latest buffoonery, sacking Mark Harvey as coach of the Fremantle Football Club. Mark Harvey, who took over the job after Chris Connolly stepped aside in 2007 still had a year to run on his contract but was given the Freo Steve-Ho after an injury plagued season saw the Dockers miss the finals. Ross Lyon is tipped to take up the job, after his sudden departure from St Kilda today, with the Fremantle administration getting around to fronting the media sometime on Friday, presumably after they run out of Crayfish tails at the Atrium buffet table. More to come.

He churns through assistant coaches like leysy does Swedish mistresses

I'm confused. I thought Rossy had had a lot of assistant coaches...................

They've certainly got form. Remember how Drum found out?

Yeah I remember. He was going to the club for a meeting when a reporter told him that he'd been sacked. The look on Drum's face was unbelievable. Had no idea.

Wow. 14 pages about some *smile* involving two sh!tty non-entities in the Aints and the Shockers.

Not Richmond. Who the *smile* cares. :sleeping

Very overrared coach is Lyon, Melbourne have dodged a bullet I reckon but it remains to be seen who the Dees pick up. Normally I'd say time to feast on the St Kilda carcus but there's little gold amongst the retreads and ageing champions. Something tells me Ross simply didn't want to endure the pain of a rebuild and bailed before things became ugly. The Saints are my tip for bottom 4 next year and I suspect there will be a period of tanking and end of era clearance sales as the enormity of the task sets in. Goddard will probably end up at GWS and players like Fisher, Gilbert and Milne will be shopped around. It wouldn't surprise me if one of their other big names became available at the right price. Amazing to think that 12 months ago they almost snatched an improbable premiership.

The more leysy thinks about it the more he thinks the Lyon contract could go down as one of the worst handed out to a coach in the history of the game.

he's doomed for failure if he tries his lock down game plan at subi.

Gee talk about pre-judging. What will you say if Dockers become a success.

He is not even on as much money as Scully.

Go Dockers.

Just watching the replay of AFL 360 nad having a chuckle at Robbo's defence of Lyon's integrity. How there is just no way a man of honour like Lyon would walk out on the final year of his contract with the Saints.

Hehehehe

Edit: Brad Lloyd has walked out as well apparently. Gun List Mgr/Recruiter. Ah bad old Freo. Just when they start turning things around they shoot themselves in the foot.

So did he quit in protest?
If so, that will cause more damage to Freo at this time of the year than changing coaches.
Wonder how Chris Bond feels about this if Lloyd feels so strongly. Surely the GM of Footy would be involved?
If Chris wasn't involved I'd say he would be gutted with all the work they were doing to improve their systems.

Note from the following article that Lloyd was Melbourne based and came from ESP who have just dumped Lyon as a client.

I shouldn't mention it, but would this be a somewhat similar scenario in late 1975 with Tommy Hafey?
Nothing like it! our board voted to keep Tommy on--with one glaring exception-Graeme Richmond. Tommy wanted his support and when it was not given-he left!

Robbo's constant defence of Lyon has been laughable all year ever since he sat with him in the coaches box during the pre season.

Some over the top reactions to Ross Lyon here.

Took the Saints to 3 grand finals and missed the finals just once under his guidance. A lot better than some others in the past.

He got offered a better job with better money and took it. If most of us were offered a 20% - 30% pay increase with longer security I bet we would take it.

The AFL is just starting to catch up to the ruthless nature of other competitions around the world. And with free agency coming in next year we all should start getting use to it.

AFL is a business after all.

I find it amusing that NO one saw it coming.

Harvey's embarrasing to listen but didn't deserve the knife the way he got it, and Severus Lyon cut's the bleeding throat......

Its not that simple, there's the matter that he essentially got Harvey sacked. A lot of coaches refuse to deal with clubs until they make arrangements with the incumbent because its the right thing to do, its a matter of integrity.

Then there's the deceitful aspect of it just like with Bomber Thompson.

Thanks to the recruiting and list management of previous coaches. Lyon has failed to improve that list. In fact, his list management can only be described as diabolical. IMO Lyon is an overated coach. Has taken a job with a decent list built by Harvey. He could have taken the Melbourne job for just as much money and time, doesn't take it because a premiership is too far away and there is too many holes in the list. Lyon is a downhill skier, looking for an easy premiership cup.

Luke Ball apparently alluded to this being the reason last night on one of the footy shows.
