Ross Lyon is not dumb.

He has now inherited two playing lists that are ready for finals disguising that fact that he does not know how to rebuild.

Harvey did the hard yards to rebuild the list for the long term. Injuries killed his results.

Ross claims to have held his head high, he must be on his toes to hold his head high above the crap line to breath. Shafted the Saints, Shafted his own "new" manager that had almost secured him a deal with the Saints he "wanted" & then shafted Harvey.

Nice work. Not sure he realises but just maybe his claims of being a career coach could be over with the Fremantle job. If after 4 years he is given the flick I am not sure many people will want to touch him.

What goes around, comes around.....

Wouldn't it be funny if he ticks off the playing list and they areshole him in 12 months time because Malthouse has told them he wants to come back to Perth......lol

lol. That would be nice

You just might see a few players want out with what the club did. Might be perfect to strike while the iron is hot. 8)

Might be worthwhile to bring him in as a assistant maybe if he doesnt get another senior gig, drawing power for any propestive Freo players to come across too 8) 8)

im sure RW had input in this...i think it says a little about Lyon...

"i hold my head up high" as he looks around the room nervously...

After everything I have seen today, I'm more convinced than ever that Lyon is an excellent coach. Not the nicest fella but one smart mofo.

I'm undecided if he is a good coach but he is very good under pressure which would help
He was getting smashed in the presser but stood up to it all
Dog bloke though ;D

Funny hearing Finey talking Lyon being part of the mile-high club :hihi

Yep. Astute!

Wish I could find an employment agency that could do a proper job. Maybe the loyalty factor is why they have employees who can't or won't do their job properly.

Honestly GO, its the way things are now. If your an employer then you adapt or you suffer the consequences. Times change and if you dont change then you suffer the consequences. Very simple mate.

We will see how flexible & how good a coach he is now.

Huge doubts for leysy.

He has a better list for a start. Off to a flyer. ;D

Better currently. Definately.

He's left St Kilda with a rabble of a list in his wake so not hard.

Ross was clearly trying to win a flag (he got very close), not build for the future. That's for the next guy or at least his list manager.
I expect the Aints will name a young coach and rebuild now. Their window has closed.

It was a smart move by Lyon no doubt but if he brings that same sort of game plan that he has had at the Saints then he will be in real trouble. I personally think it was a great move so as long as he adapts to the strenghts of the players he has at his new club. In other words go for it. He wouldnt want to go into another club and be so negative with such a attacking playing group.

That is the big test for him Tuby.

Dont underestimate how hard it will be for him to change philosophy.

Because that same philosophy will fail at Subi, let alone without the amazing buy-in from St Kilda's leaders.

Dont underestimate the power of the WA media in his future either. They loved Harvey & will make Lyons tenure hell. They are powerful over their & have very long memories.

Big hurdles to overcome.

Agree on both counts Leysy. The way the presser went today was totally feral in relation to his tenure. He needs some hard work to win them over. And if he thinks he can bring the same game plan over west then he will be truely found out. He needs to reinvent and motivate the club and himself. Time will tell but his tenure at St Kilda was over.

Freo must have money to burn. To payout Harvey and to be most likely be paying Lyon the most in the league to coach next year must mean money is no issue for them.

In all of this, I think that Mark Harvey gets overlooked as a coach and club builder.

He took Freo from the older generation of Bell, Black, Headland, Carr, Hasleby and turned the list over into its current state of Fyfe, Hill, Mundy, Broughton, Clarke, Mzungu, Barlow. Harvey changed the culture at Freo from a club that stood for nothing for a young attacking slick outfit with a modern game plan. He may come across as having a bit of the Terry Daniher's about him but he built a list and put good people around him.

He is no mug. The Bulldogs, Saints & Crows could do a lot worse then look in his direction. Brad Llyod has walked out of Freo as well so they could be a handy package.
