My elder brother is a very good friend of an ex-assistant St. Kilda coach or was that a coach of a St. Kilda affiliate, can't remember. He is now enjoying a warmer climate. Anyhoo....he knows Lyon reasonably well, and describes him as an absolute C, with a capital C. He also says SOS couldn't get out quick enough.

I don't know Lyon at all but from what you hear that opinion doesn't surprise me.

Interesting watching the Dockers presser now.

It was a bit fiesty. Those journos over there are obviously not mates with everyone like they are here and refuse to be fed *smile* by the footy clubs. Think Lyon is going to have a hard ride in the WA press.

Yeah that really bugs me. It is just wrong. He made two Grand Finals and one GF replay.

And he won zero 8)

Bottom line. A coach takes an already well-built team to 2 GFs.......is that how Freo assess?

I would not be impressed if we say had negotiated with Malthouse behind Dimma's back this year and paid him out. Malthouse doesn't want that either, a point of difference between him and Ross Lyin.

lol, Malthouse is trying to get out of his water-tight contract too. In fact his situation is an attempted break of contract unlike Lyon. If the Tigers wanted Malthouse and were able to get him of course they would do their negotiations without Dimma's knowledge. There is no other logical way to approach it. Dimma's still a little in his honeymoon period and most supporter's think he's doing a solid job, so the comparisons are not the same. If, in hindsight, a Malthouse situation became apparent in Wallace's reign my bet is you would have cheered from the stands. There's no ethical issue here, there is no reflection on a a person, it is strictly business.

Your employer must be on their lonesome there then U2. I know a number of recruitment agents out there that both headhunt and are just normal agents that agree that loyalty has gone a number of years ago. But good on your employer - a diamond in amongst the rough mate.

Wish I could find an employment agency that could do a proper job. Maybe the loyalty factor is why they have employees who can't or won't do their job properly.

Wouldn't have minded someone taking us to 2 grand finals instead of the 2 finals series we've managed in the last, what 28 years.

Totally agree Goody, they're all salespeople. You apply, they call you, you explain what you're looking for, they invite you for an interview, you go in and sell yourself, they make you register with them and then promise they'll find something suitable.........which never really happens.

Don't call us, we'll call you.

maybe the loyalty I mean is a little different to this.

In my job - you have security, hard to get sacked, but you just can't up and quit either.
why cant u up n quit?
are we living in china?

here is my simple redneck summary
lyon has made his own bed ,,, let him lie in it
saints are gone for 10 years
freo the same
lilke politics our game is a reflection on society and the fish always rots from the head,
the hardest part will be richmond now keeping our guns now that free agency is here under another guise

After you serve your requirement, you can get out whenever you want, but you give 6 months notice normally, they can approve an early exit, but the writing is six months.

anyway - I just saw loyalty written, and maybe i used it in wrong context, but I still see loyalty in a important way myself.

Do not agree with that- would almost lock them in for top 4-6 next year

I'm still *smile* scared of AD's chequebook.

Could kill our club with one wave.

Apparently the Shockers football dept were at loggerheads with Harvey over a few little things. One being the targetting of Mitch Clark.Harvey wanted him while others in the football dept[Chris Bond amongst others] were against it.

Chris Bond would have been Richmond's reigning B+F in the year that Ross Lyon started as Robert Wall's assistant. Would have spent two years working with each other ... just saying ;)

Granted. But the point is that many laud this clown as a truly remarkable coach, and that everyone should fall over themselves to sign him. The reality is that he hasn't actually achieved anything remarkable at all with what was a very good list, at the peak of its powers, at his disposal.

The funny thing is, Fremantle were almost in the top 4 mid year before all their injuries caught up with them, With Harvey there and a fit list next year, they wouldve been absolute morals for the 8 and odds on for the top 4.

If they cant finish above 6th next year, its a massive failure.

I agree.

As much as Harvey is chastised for his coaching abililty, thought Freo had a horror run with injuries and otherwise would have finished probably 6th this year with a first home final.

One looks at Fremantles list right now, its pretty good for the next year or 2.

Femantles window is definately now, St' Kildas is gone.

Ross Lyon is not dumb.

He has now inherited two playing lists that are ready for finals disguising that fact that he does not know how to rebuild.

Harvey did the hard yards to rebuild the list for the long term. Injuries killed his results.

Ross claims to have held his head high, he must be on his toes to hold his head high above the crap line to breath. Shafted the Saints, Shafted his own "new" manager that had almost secured him a deal with the Saints he "wanted" & then shafted Harvey.

Nice work. Not sure he realises but just maybe his claims of being a career coach could be over with the Fremantle job. If after 4 years he is given the flick I am not sure many people will want to touch him.

When you think back on it, Thomas had St Kilda playing good footy, particularly their name players, but had a wierd bias against ruckmen.
Lyons came in and remedied the glaring hole in Thomas's team by getting King and Gardiner as mature rucks and away they go.
