This could be a much debate topic by the end of the year

If could hold on to more marks, he would be guaranteed a position in the side for a very long time.
He was very good tonight. He busted about 5 packs and his pressure was fantastic

Re: The positive Luke McGuane thread

Muscles plays like a man. Terry Wallace would not approve.

I can think of a half dozen Tiger players who had poor games tonight. And a dozen who did well.

Muscles had a fine game.

Did the job last night , went well,

But he is going to have his moments where he is going to let us down as well , not through not trying though

Re: The positive Luke McGuane thread

Carey Mcguane was Carey like. Those knees were flying every where.
Hold a mark

Re: The positive Luke McGuane thread

was one of our best. if only griff had his intensity.

Re: The positive Luke McGuane thread

Seventeen goals in 10 games since somebody had a "Road to Damascus" moment and moved him forward. If truth be told, it was more a "Road to Mandalay" moment as some of his defensive work had a distinct Bob Hope feel.

Nonetheless, great work last night.

I was just glad there was no-one on the mark for that kick. It lowered the chances of another "Road to .... movie" considerably.

You sir are missing the flaming point. He'll be playing on a bum most weeks. JR and TV 1 and 2. Daylight, Lukey Baby. He's never going to get a gun defender playing on him. That is the whole point. Geez.

Ideally, we need to reduce the daylight between 2 and 3. In the meantime McGuane gets to play as we don't currently have any other options stepping up.

Thats fair enough, but the point is he doesn't have to be Jack or TV, he's not expected to be, he's not paid as much, he's a fringe third tall. Thats what he is. He should be assessed on that basis.

If we win people seem to get it. If we lose they don't, and have to vent anger. I'm not saying he shouldn't be dropped for poor form or be immune from criticism, not one bit, but he has to be viewed in the context of what he is. Despite the lip service people pay to expectations, people expect every player to be a star, its just not the way footy is.

yep...no one can deny it,luke did some excellent stuff tonight.....couldnt ask for more....and that match winning tackle was " ILLEGAL "
Beautiful picture in todays Hun clearly shows Bootsma should have received a free for an over the shoulder tackle. Luckily those maggots turned an OPSM blind eye at exactly the right moment.
Never gunna be a star Lukey McGuane but you simply cannot question his desperate commitment and endeavour, cracked in full barrel all night.

To be honest I don't think for most there is any confusion here that he needs to be a Reiwoldt or Vickery. He played his part last night.

He was very good last night. And really, if you ignore the comedy capers at Subiaco last year, he was pretty good late last year as well.

It's up to others to displace him from the team. At the moment, noone seems close. And if we keep getting output from him like he gave last night, he will stay in the side and be a very good 3rd tall.

Disagree on the first bit, a lot of confusion I reckon. people will often start their post with something like 'I know he's only a fringe player but....' then proceed to bag him when he has done his job.

he did a great job last night and did all that would have been asked of him. Strong marks, terrific first, second, third and fourth efforts. Added real defensive pressure in the forward line chasing down the ball and throwing himself around like he wanted to play there. He performs much better than that other bloke we had last year...the one with the attractive wife.....We were all crying out for a forward who can kick 40 goals a year and Luke may well be one of those who can.....but if he keeps that going then he will drag a stronger defender onto himself.
