if luke can snag 40-50 goals this year, he could, against all odds, be our MVP

BTW mid, sorry i carried on a bit last night. I made myself a tankard of stiff margarita at 3/4 time to start celebrating and then just tipped it down my throat nervously as the blues came. I regret carrying on like a *smile* on pre in the ensuing haze. 8-

Not a problem, it happens to the best of us.

:hihi I wish I had a tankard or two myself. I probably would have drowned drinking, yelling and heart palpitations at the end
Nicely done TGW

Re: The positive Luke McGuane thread

the rumour is that he doesn't actually have thumbs.

a superb career if that's the case.

If could hold on to more marks, he would be guaranteed a position in the side for a very long time.
He was very good tonight. He busted about 5 packs and his pressure was fantastic

At the start of the game I told my nephew that McGuane could be a 40 goal a year forward. He almost fell of his seat laughing. But he bobbed up again for a couple of goals. I don't think I will be to far off the mark.
2 down 38 to go. ;D

…. if we view McGuane from the other side I reckon he presents a real challenge. Vickery and Jack will always require their top defenders, top spoilers. McGuane despite his awkward uncoordinated uncool unlikely aura is tall, competes hard and can take a serious mark. McGuane's doing really well. Comes with an excellent fear factor installed too - will he trip over his own laces running into an open goal or takes a screamer to save the day? :)
Go McGuane!

For the first time ever the word sublime came into my mind when McGuane was involved in the play - the little give to Reiwoldt in the 2nd quarter that resulted in a goal was just that. McGun spent the next 10 minutes wondering what had just happened.

Still don't know how he did that, his hands seemed not to move. Almost - dare I say it - magical. A career highlight for sure.

This from luke on rfc.com

"It's good to get this win, especially against Carlton, and get that voodoo off our back. Now we just move on."

This explains alot. apparently after the 1982 loss, some carlton fan collected some of mick malthouses pubes off the soap and made a little tiger doll with curly hair. Now that Micks a blue, the voodoo is null and void.

Thats fair enough, but the point is he doesn't have to be Jack or TV, he's not expected to be, he's not paid as much, he's a fringe third tall. Thats what he is. He should be assessed on that basis.

If we win people seem to get it. If we lose they don't, and have to vent anger. I'm not saying he shouldn't be dropped for poor form or be immune from criticism, not one bit, but he has to be viewed in the context of what he is. Despite the lip service people pay to expectations, people expect every player to be a star, its just not the way footy is.
Way to simple and logical for most snakey one. Goes for a group of our players who are similarly abused for not being among the 22 " superstars " we are expected to play every week.

Helen passed her pubes to Micky.... ;D

I made the call on the poll last week that he would be the most improved and so far so good. He is obviously deficient in many areas of the game and it has all been well publicised over the years but there is something about him that disrupts the equilibrium on the field and that is the art of chaos that he brings to all pieces of play. Let's watch with interest this year what he gets up to because Dimma said he is going to play a lot of footy for us which is a sign the club value him.

Heaven help us, don't hold your breath relying on this bloke. His game was acceptable against Carlton only because he was on an even bigger dud in Bootsma. Lucky we weren't 4 points down with 30 seconds to go. Yeah he tries, yeah he compete's, but is he the answer? Nah.

T12 ye of little faith.

He moves and creates (not that he knows it) and this compared to A Edwards ?

Personaly im not a big fan of luke but he is playing his role and contributing, if he keeps it up he should play everygame

Bit rough on Bootsma.

After all, he's only a 2nd year AFL footballer.

Can't work it out, your not a fan of a bloke that busts packs & tackles like a hungry lion, but you rather have a bloke like grigg who runs on the spot all game, never mans up and his arms are painted on when it comes to tackling.
Hardwick best positional change has been moving Carey forward. Now he can do the Same with griffo

Mick didn't play in the 1982 GF, which for many people is one of the key reasons we lost.
