Luke McGuane

I hope he works out for you. I'm not expecting a miracle.

I hope he works out for us and so should all supporters. I'm not expecting miracles either but if he can make a genuine contribution as a forward it will be a bonus as he was a lost cause as a defender and Aadwards looks a bust.

Same as he did pre-season 2011. We'll find out over the next few weeks.

How many super-competitive, elite 200cm ruckmen at 22yo can you reel off your tongue? Or even average? Of course he has a lot of work in front of him. His tap rucking has been under-estimated or just not noticed. Even last year, with the limited rucking he was doing, he was often winning the day of all ruckmen for percentage taps to advantage. Just give the poor boy time. Comparing him negatively to McGuane is just stupid. Look macro, not micro.

Nup enough excuses, the time has come where all players young or old, high draft picks or rookies have gotta earn their keep to play seniors. Let them 'develop' at Coburg.
That is macro.
Time to win games of footy.

I don't expect to see Luke in the Seniors this year unless there is an injury to 3 or more players in the forward line.

I reckon he's a shoo-in for Round 1

Not taking the p!ss here but I cant see why McGuane cant play a similar role to LRT of Sydney.

4 more years and 80 odd games to look forward to. That will make some happy. ;D
Be a sight to see Muscles walk up to the podium to receive his premiership medallion. :cupgold

If we ever make it to a GF and hes there you could bet your bottom dollar he'd be the one that gives away a dumb free kick in dying minutes that loses us the game. Either him or Jackson.

If both play 20+ games this season I'm not convinced we make finals though.

If I see that I reckon my tears of joy will turn into tears of laughter imaging the conflicting emotions of craig at that moment.

Interesting combination of pace, agility, leap, good hands when marking, chase and tackles when defending, and the odd stuff up with the ball in hand. And real enthusiasm to be playing. Mostly a pretty good package. But will break your heart at times.
The bottom line is noone else is much better than him as the third tall, so he gets the chocolates until someone else lights up.

It doesn't work that way ToO. To win games of footy you need address each player individually and plan the best way to bring them into form. For some players, having them play out of normal structure at Coburg is just not going to let them develop. Imagine Geelong for example taking this approach and dumping Hawkins in 2010 at 22 when he was completely out of form. Sliding doors. You could argue they wouldn't have won a premiership in 2011.

If there was a suitable valid young player who was a better potential option than Vickery then it's a different story, but there's not. Vickery is earmarked as a key future player for our structure. We don't need him losing experience to a a very average 26yo footballer who in after playing backline for 6 years, in desperation has been thrown into the forward line to provide some comic relief. McGuane may get a game in Round 1 but that won't and shouldn't be at the expense of Vickery. Vickery, subject to injury, must play the first handful of games if not half of the season to build confidence and find form.

Are you trying to tell me he plays regardless of how his form is?
Vickery hasn't been that bad......and like McGuane he will line up in Round 1 because he is still the best option for that position (as long as we keep playing 3 talls anyway).

To start the season yes, as agincourt says anyway his form hasn't been THAT bad. You have to give players of his type some time before just carting them out. You're philosophy seems to be that if you haven't excelled in the pre-season that you shouldn't play. It's been your theme in many of your player posts. I say there's a lot more to player development than a narrow focus on what's happened in pre-season. The team would be looking at his development with the aim of him finding form and confidence to produce what they know he can produce. And I believe, as I hope they do, that that would mean a meaningful stint to get there. It might be different next year when we have our own team but there is no doubt the Coburg setup has thwarted the dfevelopment of our players, in particular the talls.

This.

Exactly right goodone.

All of that said, Vickery is actually playing much better football than Hawkins was at that time.

Fair enough. For all that let's see what TV offers us in game 1 if he's picked as you expect.

Carey needs to have a really good game on Thursday night.
Pass mark if he plays in the forward line 2-3 goals and 4-5 tackles trying to keep in the ball in.
I think it will be an ok combination jack & Carey mcguane

Always enjoyed the way LRT plays his footy. Dual premiership player at Sydaknee. Also enjoy Lukey's scrap n commitment, if Laceout gets half of LRT's result I'll be a happy man.
Premierships are rarely about how flash n pretty you can play, they're always about how hard you can compete first n second. Then you can worry about how pretty it looks.

I don't think mcguane will affect how many games Vickery plays.
Astbury is the most likely player to be affected by how mcguane plays

Elton should aim for half s dozen games. The club should play him against Suns Giants Melbourne Bulldogs Port and Brisbane

Not sure how that works DDT? Astbury players back. *smile* forward.

Also Elton has plenty of time. Wouldn't be gifting him games especially against teams we are expected to beat. I think the days of gifting any player is over based on over depth.
