I love this post

That post is exactly why we have been a basket case for 3 decades. If we laugh and shrug our shoulders every time *smile* goes near the ball, we may as well recall Graham, Post, Moore, Miller, etc, and get our comedy capers fix for the week. I'd rather my comical relief came from somewhere other than the RFC.

Exactly. It is all the fault of people posting on the internet.

I don't deny we were a basket case for that time and I hated it. However we have turned a corner. Off field we are strong again. I spose my point was look how far we have come. And to anyone saying they are sick of mcguane. Or he is the reason we don't make finals. Give me a kid that can do his role? Did I say I purely watch mcguane for comedy? Just saying take the good with the bad and don't whinge about it.

unless AAEdwards kicks 5 ...... :p

True, Aadwards could kick a bag and a half to put him in contention. Great position to be in for the club, competition for places in the squad.

Not sure having A Edwards or L McGuane fighting over a best 22 spot is necessarily a plus.

Would you prefer one have the spot by default ?

If Luke or Aadwards are our worst player in our starting 22, we're doing ok.

Your basic premise is correct. Yes we have come a long way. Yes the club is in it's best position for a long time to make a sustainable push up the ladder. But, the club needs to identify its deficiencies and then rectify them in order to go all the way. If we simply accept mediocrity, then that's as far as we go.

You want a kid to do his role? Try Griffiths. Astbury. Elton. A Edwards if necessary. Any of these guys with an arm tied behind their backs would be a more palatable option than watching McGuane!

Unfortunately for you the club doesn't pick their teams to satisfy you palat. Griffiths and Astbury are in defence, Elton can't finish nor chase and tackle as well as mcguane and Edwards has shown nothing close to mcguane this pre season.

This is exactly the problem. The 3rd tall can't be 200cm tall unless you want opposition clubs running out of our forward line like we were running out of the Bombers forward line last week.

Personally i'm more than comfortable with McGuane playing first round despite some limitations. If we had a team full of players with no limitations we'd have to dismantle it for salary cap reasons.

Here's a reality check: Sydney won a premiership with two player rated as 'Below Average' relative to their peers: Lewis Roberts-Thompson, Mitch Morton. Hawthorn had one below average player: Shane Savage and you could easily argue Ryan Shoenmakers should slot into that category.

Sydney also had a number of average rated players that day, and most were rated at the lower end of average: Marty Mattner, Alex Johnson, and Sam Ried.

Like it or not, Luke McGuane is rated at the higher end of the average category, and sure it's just based on Champion Data figures but some here have to concede that there is a lot he's doing right.

For one, he's one of the few that seems to have some composure with his set shots and we sure as hell could use that at the moment. We've kicked something like 3.10 v Melb, 6.8 v NM and 10.20 v Ess

That's 19.38 so far this pre-season. At the moment a lot of our players might as well be kicking it with their plonka.

Add Grimes and Chaplin to Rance as the 3 first choice defensive talls (I'm assuming you'd agree with that). Flank these guys with any 3 of Morris, Houli, Newman, Batchelor, Vlastuin, Ellis, Dea, Petterd, Conca. What do you then do with Griffiths and Astbury? If your answer is play McGuane in the forward line to compliment Jack and Vickery ahead of either of these 2 then you have just provided my comic relief for this week.
