Luke McGuane

Like it or not, Luke McGuane is rated at the higher end of the average category, and sure it's just based on Champion Data figures but some here have to concede that there is a lot he's doing right.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics. FFS, Joel Bowden would've been rated a superstar based on statistics. Give me a break, McGuane at the higher end of average!! Now I've heard it all. :duh

Add Grimes and Chaplin to Rance as the 3 first choice defensive talls (I'm assuming you'd agree with that). Flank these guys with any 3 of Morris, Houli, Newman, Batchelor, Vlastuin, Ellis, Dea, Petterd, Conca. What do you then do with Griffiths and Astbury? If your answer is play McGuane in the forward line to compliment Jack and Vickery ahead of either of these 2 then you have just provided my comic relief for this week.

Brace yourself because you might find this fatally funny, but Luke McGuane managed 15 goals from 9 games as a forward last year.
Griff was a forward prior to last season and managed 4 goals from 9 games, and Astbury was a forward for 17 games in 2010 and managed 5 goals. Both are very composed with the ball but struggle to get it in the first place. I'd love nothing more than to see a player with a hoof like Griffiths start taking marks as a CHF but reading the play seems like braille to him at the moment. All the same if one of these two did come good as a forward you have a little thing called team balance that starts to get thrown out.

Yup Joel Bowden, isn't he the guy that routinely held monster sized forwards that our key backs couldn't control and got 25 to 30 possessions a game to boot?

Agree, Baloo. Premiership tall defender never played in position.

(I don't want any of you nitpickers to make me change that Never to Rarely. Or Too late.)

Oops. Muscles thread.

Do you know what I like best about the Flying Pencil? The flying bit.

Coburg tigers. Its all about balance. Are griff and Astbury more skilled and talented then McGuane? Of course. But do they play the same position and apply the same forward pressure? No. Incase you haven't noticed our game plan is to kick long to pockets, win the aerial contest or a stoppage. Mcguane fits that game plan perfectly. As mentioned he is great in the air. But also on the ground. Clearly you are so blind you can't see the Forrest from the trees. Like many other posters I don't think every player is a gun. But unlike you and your friends I attempt to understand why our club makes these choices.

Again, lies, damn lies, and statistics. Look behind those stats. Astbury played forward in 2010 when the team was cut to the bone and lost about 80% of our games courtesy of game time given to a bunch of kids, prior to sustaining a bad injury. Griffiths was recruited as a forward and was initially played there, again in a relatibely poor team prior to injury. I have no doubt he has been played in defence to teach him the defensive side of his game; but, again, he was recruited as a forward. Here's where stats tell fibs. 15 goals from 9 games for McGuane in 2012 hey? Have a look at the Essendon game late in the season. Total midfield domination. McGuane should've kicked 8 in that game alone if he was any good. Look at the North Melbourne game and the level of his incompetence. Here's the punch line: if this club wants to conquer the mountain it's not going to do it with McGuane. Play Griffo and Astbury in the forward line until the cows come home instead of going backwards with an incompetent dud like McGuane.

I think it's time for everyone to accept McGun has turned it around and is now a valuable player for us. Moving him back to the forward line, where he played his junior football has invigorated him.

Other coaches will be struggling to match up on McGun. Who do you put your best defender on, Jack or Luke ? Bloody tough choice.

Plays with miles more intensity than Vickery. Luke makes some errors but he got us back in the game today. As soon as he came on we had a target to kick to. Iced his chances again too. Has to play round 1.

Did he find space to lead and mark? How were the passes into attack....all bomb and hope again?

100% agree.
How long to we give vickery. Got thrashed by Minson and took his 1st mark in the last qtr.
He gave nothing today
