Luke McGuane

He's a Gun. McGun.

One can only assume it was list management and minimum salary cap factors that got McGun into the top 10 paid players. We had to give money to someone, don't want to upset the balance and overpay kids at an early age so you might as well give it to someone who works as hard as he possibly can for the club.

He was restricted Free Agent in 2012 so 100% is in top 10 paid players this season.

350K at a minimum you'd think.

Luckiest footballer in Australia.

should be on a massively reduced wage one would think

He's been listed as a restricted free agent for the entire year. There is only one way you can be a restricted FA

a smart move by the club if anyone had picked him up - sweet FA

My god that is staggering. McGuane in the top 10 paid players in the club   Another Craig Cameron masterstroke.

I don't get how this is staggering. I just had a look at the list, to see who would realistically be getting paid more.

Probably:

Cotchin
Deledio
Newman
Riewoldt

and then a whole bunch of maybes:

Foley?
Jackson?
Tuck?
Maric?
Martin?

Everyone else is either a bargain trade, players who dont play in the seniors frequently, or a younger player who hasn't really done enough yet to demand the big bucks.

Leading into 2012, like it or not, McG was a regular seniors player, who for a number of years was a lock in our backline.

Being in the top ten salaries is hardly surprising. Doesn't make him a great player, it just demonstrates the huge gap that we've had in the mid-range of the list.

What about Grigg, Houli, Nahas, King, maybe Moore, maybe Vickery?

My take on Muscles's pay is that he would have been on maybe 375k and his new contract would be guessing 250k. Maybe 200k.

Do you play 22 games as a key back for an AFL club? If you answered yes to this go to the bank every Thursday and withdraw $8,000.00. Perhaps $7000.00 if you're not much chop.

Do you play 8 AFL games in part time TALL roles, pinch hitting? $3000 or $5000 in your bank. Not bad really.

Chaplin would be on 400k. Maybe 450. Rance 400. Grimey will be on that one day. We know Houli's on about 300-350. It's the money the job pays. Jack, Chimp and Lids would be on 500+, soon enough to rise.

Muscles had plenty of time to assess our offer. Post had plenty of time to get a new one. Free agency helped us get the money right here. And the term.

Even if he was on that money in 2012 (and it seems that's a guess) - it wouldn't mean he'd be getting near that for 2013
