He'll probably end up somewhere like Freo and play in a premiership team next year.

Maybe the Swans or Hawks but not Freo given Luke's display of ball handling skills in the goal square recently.

8 seasons for Muscles. Unbelievable.

Pretty sure that he was initially offered a 2 year deal but I hear he has only been re-signed for the 1.

Is this the case?

Unbelievable alright.

Yeah it is.
McGuane and Jacko in particular just aren't natural footballers yet they've played an awful lot of AFL footy and a heck of a lot more than anyone who posts here regularly.
Just goes to show talent is only half the battle to be an AFL footballer these days.
You play 100 games of AFL you've at least done something right.

Let me be the first one to say it:

The only thing they did right was get drafted by Richmond. No way they would have lasted as long as they have anywhere else.

Luke McGuane is a very good footballer quick, agile, solid mark, good closing speed, good spoiler, played a lot as a key position defender, not a bad record.
Ok maybe not a great kick, not elite but a merchantable footballer at an average club.
As the Tigers aspire to be elite he has dropped down the pecking order, but he has a bit of X- factor about him with exciting goal and unfortunately point kicking. He has earned his position, but will probably fade away as more better younger blokes get ahead of him. Applaud his achievements he has been good for us.

Our secret weapon.

I do ask this question, has he been played out of position for all these years.

How would he have developed if he had been developed as a forward?

Is his checkered past at RFC due to the club getting his development wrong.

For all the criticism of him ATM, its hard to argue he actually did have a positive effect (on game day - not talking about him taking a kids spot) when he was moved forward this year.

I was suprised, but I won't deny he showed something.

Does make you wonder.
No doubt those behinds were a calamity but he had the 2nd highest goal average at the club this year when he was played forward.
If you had to compare him to anyone he's a bit like Adam McPhee but not as good.
Hopefully can play a role again next year for us now that he's been signed.
BTW I prefer him to Post.

I remember him being played forward a couple of times prior to this year and he was absolutely unbelievably shocking, so not surprised he was never called forward again. But let's be realistic, the games he played in were against Port, Essendon, Fremantle, Western Bulldogs, Brisbane, Carlton, North, Gold Coast, Melbourne. Only 1 of those 9 teams were in the top 8 for lowest goals scored against. 7 of them were in the 8 most goals scored against. In fixture terms he had an unbelievable draw.

Geez Louise, I have read it all. He is a fatally flawed footballer who makes dumb decisions and is unskilled by foot. Doesn't have a ounce of footballing IQ and even suggesting that he has been played out of postion is an amazing reach. Should have been gone four years ago. Has not improved, the only reason he got a game this year up forward because another short term fix (Brad Miller) went pear shaped. Was gone then and should be now.

Cmon Tooheys, know that for some bizarre reason you've always somewhat rated him, but the only reason McGuane has played 8 seasons of AFL footy is because his name was read out by Richmond at the draft.

Zero chance he is playing AFL football if taken by any other club.

& to think some of his years were very well paid.

Horrible player who is quite simply the single luckiest footballer in Australia.

Yeah I can't explain it but I do favour him over some others even though he can't play very well.
Maybe it's cause I was such a huge fan of his uncle's work. That and I like players who try to make the most of their opportunity.

Aah well he's still there to torment you for another 12 months at least. ;D
