Luke McGuane

Has his knockers, but I take my hat off to McGuane, I really do.

Would have been under alot of pressure to perform in the seniors after having a good idea he would be gone at year's end if he didn't perform.

Was surprisingly good for mine as a forward, sure he made some mistakes but he gave some real contests, kicked goals and provided a good option and foil for JR.

Happy for him to be re-signed for a couple years as a role player and to provide some depth when he gets replaced up forward by one of the younger players coming through.

Genuinely believe that he was a positive for us this year and I'm not fussed either way if he stays with us or gets traded (he has probably hit his peak trade value now).

I really don't get the ridicule. He's the classic depth player. Great mark, fast, strong, gutsey, lacks class and polish. And the way he's toiled away at Coburg shows level headedness (character-wise I mean). Obviously we'll keep turning over players and he'll either improve, stay where he is until we find a better young prospect, or he'll drop off. I'm happy to have someone in the seconds who can come in and give a contest when we get some injuries.

Whats the big deal?

Of a list of 40 odd we have 35 classic depth players and according to the various threads on PRE we need all of them.

Quoted for truth. You need all the McGuanes, Jacksons, Whites and Gus's you can get.

Don't go putting words in my mouth jb. Not what I said or think. Far from it.

If Luke McGuane could get behind the controls of Jayden Post's body we'd have Earl Spalding on our hands.

interesting. we currently have 35 players on our list.
they are all classic depth players hey?

The advantage in retaining Luke is the younger key forwards know they have to step up and perform or else Luke will replace them while they go back to the 2's for re-education.

Unfortunately we are forgoing the chance to find a future footballer.

Every team needs balance. There are times when you need an experienced hard body to fill in for injuries. There are times when you can afford to blood a young kid because he has some protection around him.

McGun is there for those times when we need a hard body. Much like how he was used this year.

Hopefully he won't get a game but spend all his time in the 2nds showing the kids what giving 100% commitment every week looks like. But if we need him in the first to cover some KP injuries then good luck to him.

In other words, Muscles will be our 'Miller' for 2013...

Just as long as they insist that he is NEVER to cross that line into defence - ever again.

Then again if Vickery, Griffiths or even Elton consolidate their spots (as forwards) McGuane won't be a concern.

Just gotta love this mindset. If the future footballer was any good he'd simply outperform the dud and expel him from the side. Plenty of opportunities for them to do so between the time Vickery, Miller struggled and McGuane was reinstated to the team.
Strange how none of these future footballers were competent enough to grab a spot ahead of an injured gimp n two abject duds.

the only good thing about mcguane is that we can treat him like actually crap, and he will take it.
