McGuane will be moved on before Deledio & Newman. McGuane is unco-ordinated and has poorer skills than the two you have mentioned.

Before Lids yes (unless he leaves), but Newman? Who knows, given Newman is 28 he may not have that long left in the game.

Isn’t it possible to see both? Admire Luke’s honesty and attack of the ball but also hoping for an upgrade in the long run? Personally I hope all our players on our list are ‘upgraded’ through either personal improvement or replacement.

Agreed. Heck I'd like an upgrade on Deledio.
Is Gary Ablett Jnr available? ;)

Why is it a pity? Are you referring to the coaching panel? I'd be very surprised if they didn't have Dan right up there in best and fairest votes before his suspension.

I support every player that runs out for our club but there are players that have the defincencies that will not be part of our next premiership and that's what I'm basing my statement on. To me it's not about where Dan is currently sitting in the B&F count or how courageous a player is , or how hard he trains, or even how popular they are around the club. It's about there skill level. These two I have mentioned put in their heart and soul for the club no doubt, but there is a missing ingredient in them both that will not take us to the next level. I don't expect you to agree with my thoughts.

That still didn't answer the questions of why it's a pity so many others can't see it the way scoop does, or who you're referring to by "so many others".

There are plenty of guys not as good as these 2 who have played in successful teams. The notion that successful teams are made up only players who are great in every aspect of the game is just wrong.

Agreed - remember that spud Shane Ellen in one of the Crows premierships?
5 goals and close to BOG.

You can't tell me he was better than Luke, and he has a premiership medal.

That's why you'll never understand. :hihi

Can't answer it? Do you mean it's a pity so many supporters can't see it, or a pity those who coach and select the team can't see it?

I have answered it very clearly in my posts.

Anyway, tell us all how good McGuane is again, maybe you can throw up some stats because you have been dabbling in them lately.

Considering there's no pity in what the supporters see or not, their opinions don't make one iota of difference to our results, I'll assume you were referring to it being a pity the coaching and selection panel can't see things.

My stat on Luke is that he has been considered good enough by those in the know to be selected for 9 games so far this season.

Those in the know don't have much choice Rosy. If, the Rance's, & Post's of this world, and I'll throw in Thursfield, go back and work on their weaknesses and impress the coaching staff then the likes of the McGuane's will find it hard to retain their spot in the team.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Your "if" in regard to other players is more a reflection on them than Luke imo. I'm sure every single one of our players has some deficiency they can improve on. Fact is the coaches obviously think, weighing everything up, at this stage that Luke has been worthy of selection so far this season.

I think a lot do, they just get drowned out.

Its not the players fault but Leysy totally agrees that while they fill crucial pegs in our structure we will continue to struggle.

Yep. And as long as we are happy to be in the bottom three for a long time we can keep having them in key posts.

Post, in his 2nd season, has been ordinary in the VFL and form hasn't warranted senior games and he too has been playing up forward.

Form in VFL is not a great correlator against subsequent for in AFL (based on reading the coburg board)

Graeme went from broken cookies to wagon wheels, and someone else came back and played well too

So do you think geoffry was referring to a lot of supporters or a lot involved at the club? Even if they do think that way and get drowned out I still don't see why it's a "pity" when it's only your personal opinion.

I think both supporters and those at the club think the same, he needs to be upgraded. He is useless when we have the ball.

It's a pity that some think Mcguane and Jackson (and others) are good players but then lament our spot on the ladder.

How they don't see that one leads to the other is beyond me. Enough of this anyway.

I'll say it - Shane Allen was better than Luke. No doubt.

Pretty patronising, high-handed post. I don't think anyone thinks that McGuane and Jackson are up there with Scarlett and Ling. In fact, they are in all likelihood B-Graders.

However, I reckon there are other, far more significant factors (ie recruiting, average age, player development), dearth of 24- 27 yr old bodies, that have placed us where we are today.

perhaps some think that having a ruckman who competes might move us up the ladder.
some of us think that having a midfield with multiple options, including some very good players might move us up the ladder.
maybe having 22 guys out there tackling, harrassing and putting pressure on the opposition might move us up the ladder.
maybe having a functional forward line with multiple options might move us up the forward.

but no. it is because of mcguane and jackson that we are bottom.

Just point to me to that exact sentence please? Geez. ::)

The fact that we rely on Jackson and McGuane types sees us in the rebuild we are trying to phase these types out.
