Luke McGuane

You know, that statement is EXACTLY what I have been thinking for a while. Some want every player to be an All Australian and it gets frustrating.

We have a team where every bloke will play a role, and if they can all play that role it will go along way to achieving the gameplan the coaching staff want. Of course, we need to improve certain area's, but good luck trying to be a youngster making a way in the side if you have some deficiencies, the ferals will be out to get you.

Daniel Jackson could certainly be forgiven for thinking that if he read this forum last year.

McGuane will be moved on before Deledio & Newman. McGuane is unco-ordinated and has poorer skills than the two you have mentioned.

He is a lot better at stopping forwards than those two though.
I think I have written about 30 posts commenting on McGuane's stopping abilities (and I dont mean using goal posts to stop). I'm not the only one.
Yet his detractors continue to ignore this point. Do you not rate his ability to stop opponents? or do you think in the modern game you dont need backs who can do this?

Luke is all we have at the moment and he'll be used until we find a replacement, IMO he is not part of the future.

It doesn't get any more technical than that.

So he is part of our future, until we find someone better.

I will be rapt when we find a KPD who has Luke's stopping skills, his courage and is a good user of the ball. Until then he will be one of our KPDs, and I dont think that is such a bad thing.

You are like a dog with a bone Rosy...... ::)

Wasn't enough for me to state my clean slate at the beginning of the pre season?

Just 1 would be nice at this stage.

What has impressed me most is the fact we have the lesser lights showing some improvement, it's enjoyable to see and shows some real coaching and development has been going on, and it's only been what 8 months? I look forward to further development in more players during the later part of this season.

I'm pretty sure EVERY player who takes the field in EVERY team has a role to play as part of a "gameplan"

Anyway, I hardly think Luke fits into the "youngster" category.

Assuming that was a serious question I'm glad of your clean slate policy. The fact remains the kind of behaviour you're accusing others of, and calling them ferals for, is exactly what happened in regard to Dan last season. You're not the only one who repeatedly stuck the boots into him when he was actually playing a valuable role in our team, as reflected by his most improved award as runner up in the JD Medal.

Welcome back to 2009. ::)

As I said, like a Dog with a bone, you just won't quit. I have previously said I will not be responding to your posts because this is what you do, hell if I know why I responded before.

Others have bothered to asked me through PM's why I have changed my attitude, unlike yourself who waits to pounce and reflect on things from years past. Get over it.

In my post I was referring to the statement rather than Luke. I wouldn't consider Luke a youngster either.

Hence why I only quoted the statement made by Brodders.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Yeah no doubt Luke McGuane and Daniel Jackson are team leaders when it comes to attack on the ball.

Also no doubt that the pair of them are sub standard users of the football and slow the flow of play with their lack of footballing IQ. I cringe every time they get a touch.

Both have to be upgraded if we are to climb but they can leave a legacy of what is expected in terms of attack on the ball.

It's a pity so many cannot see that Scoop.

Why is it a pity? Are you referring to the coaching panel? I'd be very surprised if they didn't have Dan right up there in best and fairest votes before his suspension.

Careful GBP, you're being a tad condescending there

Isn’t it possible to see both? Admire Luke’s honesty and attack of the ball but also hoping for an upgrade in the long run?  Personally I hope all our players on our list are ‘upgraded’ through either personal improvement or replacement.  Is that more naive than demanding Luke be dropped for poor disposal and be replaced by the Goo?

No mate....just common sense!

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Unfortunately our results actually vindiacte many PREtenders opinion that McGuane is our best defender and Jackson one of our best midfielders. When they and a few others cease getting games I'm sure our results will improve.

I disagree. There are plenty of guys not as good as these 2 who have played in successful teams. The notion that successful teams are made up only players who are great in every aspect of the game is just wrong.
Having said that, if we replace them with guys who match their positive attributes, but dont have their deficiencies, all the better.

Its not the players fault but Leysy totally agrees that while they fill crucial pegs in our structure we will continue to struggle.

Yeah we all know Luke has his deficiencies blah blah..

but today his efforts in the goal square deserve recognition.
Absolute selflessness and determination to save that goal and almost ended his career in the process.
Luke then bounced up and hit the next contest with equal vigor, almost ending Lollipop Head's career.
It was tremendous stuff and set a real example for his team mates to follow for the rest of the day.

If everyone of our players showed the passion & guts that Luke showed at those particular contests we'd be nigh unbeatable.

If he's upgraded eventually by a better player great but it's obvious he bleeds yellow and black so let's get behind him and leave the cheap shots at the door. Couldn't care less what his knockers say, I unashamedly love this kid's attitude.

Well said. I agree.
