And seriously, full credit to him for not dropping his head when he was relegated. From all accounts gave 100% at Coburg no matter where they played him and was also playing a leadership role helping the kids. There isn't more you could have asked of Luke.

It's why I don't have much respect for Webberley. By all accounts he gave up a while back.

Exactly. No matter how much or little people may think of his footballing abilities, he always gives his all and I reckon would be a great bloke to have at the club. I am pleased for him that he is starting to kick a few goals and see some reward for his hard work, regardless if he goes on next year or not.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

As a Tiger fan, its good to see McGuane find a bit of form, hes definately adding to the side right now.

I'm pretty indifferent on whether he stays or not but I do think we need to churn a few out this year to make room for some more top end talent into the team.

Nonetheless, much like Tuck and King did a couple of years ago, he has taken the knocks like a man and worked hard to win back his place. Matt White has done the same and these guys all deserve respect for their maturity.

We do need to make room at the end of the year though. The Bulldogs could use him in their forward line and on yesterday's performance he'd play another 100 games there.

You are right. The expansion is propped up by the Billion-dollar TV rights. Should Australians ever decide to forego their Pay TV subscriptions and find other ways to watch their footy, the expansion clubs are stuffed.

Is expansion worthwhile when people will only go while the club is winning? These new clubs have no soul.

give them time.

they may or may not be a success, but they are here now, I hope their fans do jump on board, and don't mind filling lower positions then the Tigers in the future.

How many Bulldogs fans did you see yesterday? How many Bomber fans will come to our game if they lose again next week? How many lapsed Melbourne Victory fans will come out of the woodwork in a few weeks’ time if Carlton doesn’t play finals?

Victorian fans can crack the sooky-la-las when their teams are losing as well as anybody, with all due respect to all of my fellow Tiger diehards, the only group of supporters who have proven to be loyal under extreme duress and are made of sterner stuff.

My observation is that most Victorian fans can’t cope with a few losses. Suddenly, gardening, servicing the Commodore at home, vacuuming the lounge room and even going shopping with the Missus become worthwhile weekend activities. My Essendon-supporting Business partner chose to go shopping for a new TV yesterday, rather than attend what was arguably his team’s most important match of the year. He nearly cried when I suggested that there wasn't going to be much footy for him to enjoy on it this year.

The expansion teams are on another level altogether. Does the AFL EVER expect a decent crowd in NSW or Queensland? It is all TV-based.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

I'm all for McGuane staying on for 2013.
If Vickery and Grimes hadn't copped injuries - he might have played the whole season with Coburg and not been required any further. So be it.
That's why we have a squad i.e. to plug holes when needed.
It's a no brainer - a "best 22" is one thing and in an ideal world none of the "best 22" would be injured or lose form.
But the reality is we need a squad of 38 (or whatever it is) and McGuane is in that 23-38 category.
As such he deserved his chance at filling in - and he's done enough in that time to earn another chance.

Equally I think McGuane's bringing some things to the forward line that Miller struggled with such as defensive pressure, the ability to take a pack mark and create goals.

McGuane's defensive pressure is immeasurably better than Miller's. Given Dimma likes the forward press, it is suprising that he didn't get a go earlier.

At some point you have to take a chance on a young player improving the club and move the journeymen on, otherwise you stagnate. When these calls are made is the essence of list management. And even the right decision can come back to bite you, like O'hAilpin did with Carlton this year when they had no tall forwards to fall back on.

If our list was mature he'd be gone, one way or another. Whether McGuane hangs on another year probably depends on what we're able to acquire.

ungrateful bugger

The high amount of $$$ we are paying him though would be in our favour when a compensation pick is formulated in return.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

You ferals have very short term memory.

He is a DUD. He kicked a few goals yesterday against a team of VFL kids and you want to give him a contract!!!!!

Any wonder this club is a rabble with players like him, Newman, Jackson, Edwards, White, Post, Miller, Moore and co who clog up the list and look like world beaterS against ordinary sides like Brisbane and Bulldogs and win junk time games that don't mean much and only suck in the deluded ferals in thinking better luck next year with the same old list of crap footballers

These types cave in under pressure in big games against quality opposition when the season on the line.

They couldnt even beat Gold Coast and Northern Bullants.

Time for this DUD to go with 8 of his mates and bring in fresh meat who have not got ingrained losing culture imprinted on there DNA!!!!

You'd be struggling to find 9 you want to keep at Melbourne.

Spelling obviously not a prerequisite for the Melbourne cheer squad?!

We must be improving, the giggler is happy to keep 30 of our current list.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

You dont get rid of him now that he showed what position really suits him.
forward, attacks the ball, tackles like a mad man and he can kick well for goal.

Bulldog fans give me the absolute sh!ts! Here they have their first losing season in ages and they completely abandon them. Of the what - 28,000 at the G - 26,000 were Tiger fans. Limp hearted, wristed, d!cked bunch the lot of them.

As they say on Facebook. I like this.

Let's see if McGuane can perform well against Freo.
