Luke McGuane

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Staggerred at posts indicating mcguane is some sort of on-field option for us beyond 2012.

Tis indeed. Tiger fans are critiscized for bagging their players but there's also an element who continue to live in hope of a hopeless cause,

No, his salary re: free agency is weighed out across all years of the contract.

Nothing against Luke but he was very very lucky he was drafted by Richmond.

Would not have earned anywhere near the money he has if drafted by any other club.

Yeah ok.

I agree about his luck, I suppose he was given the contract when he was the number 1 defender at the club.

Someone had to get the cash.

Staggerred at posts indicating mcguane is top of the delist line beyond season 2012.

The following players should go before him:

Miller
Graham
Adamm Maric
Moore
Browne
Post
Webberly
White

and condsidering Connors and McDonald are gone

If our 11th draft selection is going to be better than Luke by all means delist but we will be in strife should we have injuries in 2013 and have to rely on a first year kid to play ruck /forward. Give him a one year deal

I reckon they are often the same fans who swing wildly based on the last match. The darkest darksiders are often the brightest brightsiders after couple of bad results.

Disagree with Browne and Post. Both young talls who deserve another year. We've all seen what McGuane has to offer and to be frank, it's not good enough. He's a classic list clogger and we now have the depth to move his type on.

I agree with this, although I do think they may keep McGuane in favour of Post.

Agree with Disco on Browne & Post. Young talls that need another 12 months.

Moore will likely get another year but the rest should be gone. (The ticket inspector got me for travelling without a valid ticket on the Gus Bus - sorry Baloo.)

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

I would keep Browne ahead of him but Post has shown very little improvement in his time at the club over 4 years. A lot less than McGuane ever has.
Reckon Moore's gone too.

Injuries have killed Moore's career. McGuane's been given far more opportunity than Post has as well.

Agree, don't hold a heap of hope for Post but he's better to keep on than McGuane. Browne definately is. No great fan of White & would personally delist, will also likely stay ahead of Luke.

Miller also listed, is a rookie.

If our depth is so good how come he's getting games?

Even if you remove Stumpy and the Big Brown Ranga from Erics delists there's still eight to go before Laceout, thats a fairly decent list trim.
Half our talls are yet to prove themselves capable of holding down a senior spot and while there's a few I'd have before Luke if fit, I won't complain if he gets another season as pure back up or simply as third tall behind Jaaack n High Def.

Plenty of players on all club lists not capable of filling major roles in the team but able to provide solid back up in the lesser roles.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

If we want to keep McGuane for "insurance" leysy will throw a name out there that could do a better job at both ends & cost nix. Cam Pedersen.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Post v McGun is an interesting one.

Post could stay on the list in the hopes he can take the next step.
McGun would stay as backup/depth.

What do the club think they need more ?

Depth for me. We have Astbury and Elliot as young KP to develop. We not have much in the way of mature players to play a role when covering injuries.

But you could easily argue both ways.

Our depth isn't good this year. Next year will be a different story if we get Chaplin. That's gives us Vickery, Griffiths, Elton, Post and any players we draft to fill the second tall forward/ruck position. That really leaves no room for Miller, McGuane or Derrickx (who also belongs on Eric's list ahead of Post and Browne) in that role which they've all played poorly this year. McGuane did best of the 3 but his deficiencies are blatant and we shouldn't be settling for average players in key positions. This is the perfect time to get a good mix of juniors and fresh mature age talent onto the list. 10 changes will make that a reality.
