Luke McGuane

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

He won't be delisted but wouldn't be at all surprised to see Luke traded north as some sort of package deal to help land us another player.
Hopefully finishes the season off really well.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Clubs wont trade for him tooheys, they'll just take him as a free agent, or more than likely as a delisted player.

Leysy will be very very suprised if anyone takes him at all.

Vossy was apparently very impressed with him the other night.... :hihi

Do you really think he'll be delisted though? Think he'll be offered a 1 year deal if he kicks more goals before years end.

I honestly think Derrickx & Post will go before him. Kel Moore too must be close to retirement.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

McGuane is neither here nor there in terms of his future.

He has shown this year that he can provide a bit of depth up forward and can play 4 or 5 games if necessary. He may get another year on a vastly reduced salary in 2013 but it doesn't really matter if he doesn't, from a Richmond perspective. He should be one of the last players put on the list for 2013 or one of the last delisted.

Someone may make him an offer under FA, but I wouldn't hold my breath. The best thing that can happen is if he kicks another 10 or so goals in the coming weeks. Maybe Carlton could use him once they miss out on Cloke?

Very likely.

We've got a real opportunity to set up our talls at the end of this season through FA and trading, if we pull the right reins. Part of the problem that we will have is that the most advanced of our young talls are also the most injury-prone. GRimes, Griffiths, Astbury and even Vickery have demonstrated that a full season may be beyond them at this early stage of their careers and they may all miss regularly through injury. One of Post or McGuane may well be kept around as a back-up KP.

Rance, Chaplin, Maric, Cloke and Riewoldt would be a solid spine, with Vickery, GRimes, Griffiths, Astbury, Elton, say Post or McGuane and a couple of ruckmen, say Browne and a first-year would be just about enough to get through the next 12 months.

It would be nice to use the ND for mids, mids and more mids.

The best scenario for mcGuane is to be the last KP kept on the list. If he plays, it will be another Miller, where he got games due to injury or poor form from players who are there for the longer term.

Trading him to GC would be the best chance for us to gain from and for him to get 22 games in the 1sts.

Just another 'back at home' deal like the Raines, Tambo & Schulz ones.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

In the strange event they do want him, why would Gold Coast trade?

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

He's Free Agent, a restricted one at that. That makes him worthless to us on the trade market as no-one will need to trade to get him. Another club might make him an offer, we will or won't match it and he stays or walks. If we did match the offer, then we could trade if he still wanted out.

The chances of this happening are pretty remote. I can't see two clubs getting into a Mexican Stand-off over McGuane's services. No doubt they would use the time to go to the pub and share a beer together while reminiscing on past glories, rather than squabble over who gets to give him a basic contract plus $20K.

If we pick up even one other FA, say Chaplin, then Chaplin will be considered the compensation for losing McG if he walks and there won't be a compo pick either. It doesn't matter how he leaves the club then, whether it be under FA or through delisting, it will be without compensation.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

unless we get some nice trade for him ,id definitely keep luke on for added depth..besides he has played quite well as a second forward...come to think of it he has been more valuable than jack in a few games..and certainly our second best tall forward this year....plus we can always swing him down back when need be and he can give away dumb free kicks and do turnovers that cost goals :rofl..gotta take the good with the bad with luke...id keep him on ONLY as a forward

That is what leysy was getting at. We WILL NOT be able to trade McGuane.

Just helping Leysy make his point before it turns into another multi-thread stalkerama.

BTW, what are the odds of our fascination with the 2004 Draft continuing this year? If we pick up Russell, Chris Knights, Thomas Murphy and Cloke through FA we will have had 15 of those boys through our books at various stages, and still been owned by Hawthorn!

Depressing!

We need to be a-holes (like salespeople are) sometimes when it comes to trading as we should be able to SELL him to GC or Lions and match a low offer from them as there would be chance of him going back home and gives us a kid or a pick rather than nothing at all. I suppose it will depend if McGone wants to go.
