Luke McGuane

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

I really not fussed either way with Luke. I'm really happy for him on a personal basis that he's found a bit of form because he's brave and a hard worker. On the other hand I don't think he has the smarts to sustain the 3rd forward role.

I don't think it will happen, but if he's continues to improve and gets a one year contact, good on him. Their will be no shortage of other people losing their jobs that the internet can celebrate this off-season.

Nope.
Restricted free agent this year.
Recruited in 2004, so eight years service.
Must be in top 25% highest paid players to be "restricted" otherwise "unrestricted"
Top 25% = top 10 paid.
Sorry - don't understand this.
What if Richmond and McGuane both agreed that he be recontracted at a figure below that of one of the Top 10?
Could the following hypothetical occur in practice i.e.
We might be happy to rank him as a depth player in the top 15-25 range and offer to pay him a rate equivalent to that.
And he might say - fair enough - I don't expect to be paid at top 10 rates because don't I expect to be picked up by another Club.

Fair and reasonable summation Col.

Unless they give him an extension.

Well lets hope they have the brains not to offer McFumbles another contract. Delist him, and find a player in the state leagues and put them on the rookie list. Look at dayne zorko! what a jet. These types are still their amongst state leagues and it bewilders me how uber duds like McFumbles will still be kept on a list.

Sadly I've seen too many poor contracts and poor decisions in the past to put faith in the same people at the club now getting rid of McGuane. Probably more likely to offer him a 2 year contract.

Very likely a back ended contract though.

No, his salary re: free agency is weighed out across all years of the contract.

Nothing against Luke but he was very very lucky he was drafted by Richmond.

Would not have earned anywhere near the money he has if drafted by any other club.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

But that's his current contract which concludes on October 31. There is nothing in the CBA that states he has to stay on the same money. He can be offered a pay cut.

That's true. No other club has had the true lack of quality players we have and when you have to pay up a certain amount some are bound to get overpaid.

I could have mentioned Hughes and Hislop. :hihi

I still think we were hasty to delist Cleve. We missed him this year. He had talent and an attitude problem: work ethic issue which can be fixed if a club has 'people skills'

Back to mcguane: I hope he keeps it up for another 4 games.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Surely he is offering us more than Miller, but less than Vickery. With questions still over Griff, Post and Astbury, he is probably our best bet as the second forward at the moment.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

If that's the concern I'd delist McGuane and grab one of the better state league goalkickers. Play Jack on 50 a bit like the first quarter against Carlton and just find someone dangerous to play behind him. Put Nahas at Jack's feet and Kingy deep and let the midfield choose their spots.

And going by Saturday night, our second best Ruckman, no apologies to Graham ;D

The Crameri option?
Seems to have worked reasonably well for them before the Weapons' influence.

As you say it's a quick, easy fix and is probably a variation on what's been done by resting Martin and Cotchin deep.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Griffiths at 50 and Jack deep would be nice too, ideally.

Which if Chaplin does come and Astbury steps up becomes a real option.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Luke may be servicable next year, would be low on the salary cap and apparently one of the strongest players on the bench press. Watched the game live on fox Saturday and he seemed to show some good signs. Had to laugh when he ran into the open goal and booted it through and smacked a lions fan sitting on the fence fair square in the mush, was wondering was he actually aiming ? Can't seem to find the footage anywhere just yet.

Even without Dave I reckon. Chaplin, Rance and Grimey with Post and Astbury backing them up is plenty of key defender depth. Batchelor can even take a number of the 3rd talls too.
