Luke McGuane

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

yep. Luke cracks in so fully resopect him for that.

But he was very lucky that it was Richmond that drafted him back in 04'. Very lucky.

No way should he go round again next year.

Good grief, McGuane went missing against North Melbourne and Carlton.

He has gone okay versus Melbourne, Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Get the message for the love of all things holy!! Move him on.

Worried a few okay games against sub par opponents and opposition will fool our coaching staff and earn this perennially underachiever another contract.

Hard not to be worried as it is the Richmond way sadly.

Think it is about the pace of the game. He looked just up with the pace last night, and I suspect he was missing from the games you mentioned because the pace was superior.

So he's not good enough to play as a key forward to back Jaack up but seeing as we don't have a Tyrone Vickery or even a Pia Miller to hold the CHF spot Luke's been working as best he can to help out the forwards.
Seeing as we don't have a Troy Taylor or Dan Connors to take the third, loose or mid size forward spot do you think Laceout might be capable of managing that spot until maybe Elton grows up a bit?
Doubt we'll see Pia on the list next year. Hopefully Ty is back at CHF and fit next year. Elton's still a year or two away from doing anything significant at senior level.
Post is still struggling to cement a position on the list and no surprise if he's gone at seasons end. Griff looks like he will make a pretty decent CHB if he gets some miles into his body.
We've got Jaaack and Ty as locked in forwards a couple of pygmy forwards in Nacho n Jakey and some rotating mids in Cotch, Dusty or Lids who can sneak down for short bursts. We don't have a number three forward who can keep the floating defender from dumping on either Jaaack or Ty. So why not Luke? Haven't seen him get in Jaaacks way in the few weeks he's been forward, Jaaacks been cruelled more by our lack of a CHF than anything else so far this year.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

I'd certainly prefer McGuane to Miller.

Well done Luke for your efforts in playing the hardest position on the field under trying circumstances.

Kind of reminds me of when Barassi sent Steven Icke forward during the 1977 finals series.

Or when Northey sent Turner to the forward line in 1995.

:happy

Although, Turner was for half a game, in that semi-final.

Icke played as a defensive CHF in the Semi against us, the Prelim & both GFs.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

I think the best we can hope from MCG doing well is that increases his trade value at seasons end. In the big picture his current efforts count for nought.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Hopefully gets another 3 year contract.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

That keeps him in the top 10 paid players at the club, like he is this year.

How can you know that?

Pure speculation

Nope.
Restricted free agent this year.
Recruited in 2004, so eight years service.
Must be in top 25% highest paid players to be "restricted" otherwise "unrestricted"
Top 25% = top 10 paid.

Handy contract to have coming off the books the same year FA is introduced. :)

Very likely a back ended contract though.

As we all know another contract doesn't mean he receives the same cash as his last either.

Unless they give him an extension.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

4 games in to a forward role. Put his defensive calamities to one side and just let him play.
Bit early to be drawing any conclusions IMO.
If King can be reinvented perhaps Muscles can be too.
His critics are harping 3 years contracts but he won't be delisted. Showing something.
