Haha, yeh. Yesterday doesn't prove anything.

He was always bad as pointed out. Love is a bit rich too.

I think he's better value as a forward.
yep, he can only miss a goal, instead of turning it over for a goal.

I liked his game, he always has a crack, just no idea what to do when he has it poor fella.

I dont think i ever read such positivity written about Lukey. Good to see everyone coming around. ;D

Enjoy it while it lasts, the internet is rarely kind to veteran role players. I give it 3 weeks, max.

Thought he did well as he gave off a couple of handballs that resulted in goals. Definitely better than Miller/Vickery have shown this year
If he keeps it up he should get a contract for next year

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

what a diffrence mcgaune made yesterday gave us more than miller or TV would of some on here dont like him but at this point in time we need mcguane just like tuck they can get the ball and although they turn it over a bit they give us contests

he kicked 2.2 but also dished off for 2 goals hopefully he stays in keeps doing what he did yesterday and i can see him bagging 5 goals in a few games i part of he's game i really like was he defensive pressure something we have been missing in our fowardline form a taller player well done luke

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

If McGuane kicks goals that's a bonus imo.
His defensive pressure was good and he was just desperate at the footy.
He has leg speed and ability to take contested marks....something Miller has no idea about.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

I get the feeling there are a few on here who are hoping that he fails..

If he keeps getting the 3rd best defender then he is gonna cause some damage.. Once he gets a bit more confidence in front of goals he'll be a handful, he's not easy to match up on..

If he starts plucking a few marks inside 50 then surely the heat is gonna be taken off Reiwoldt somewhat..

Its a shame it's taken so long for him to replace Miller really given he's looked lively at Coburg (from all reports)

No doubt.

If Dimma can reinvent King as a forward then there's a chance for Luke too albeit a small one.
Remember he played up front as a junior so he has a clue.

Can take a grab and provides good defensive pressure.
Kicking is not great but there's plenty of more glamourous key forwards in the league with that issue.
Hope he keeps it up.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Reckon Luke would have scored just as many points with the coaches yesterday for his actions when he didn't have the ball.

It's been frustrating watching the ball rebound out of our forward line this year. Jake (when he plays) and Nahas do their bit to hold it in but they haven't had a great deal of assistance from Miller, Vickery and Jack.

For a tall player McGuane is very agile and he defends/tackles with intent. He probably won't be around next year and like Jake King he's not the most skilled player, but his endeavour is great and despite all his deficiencies he can take a mark.

It would have been so easy for the club, once they made the decision that he was not part of our future, to let him rot at Coburg until his contract finished. Instead they elected to reprogram him and play him up forward at Coburg. This pleases me because it tells me that the club is leaving no stone unturned to wring the utmost from our present list. Dare I say the word development and how much better would it get (money permitting) if one day we could get a stand alone side in the VFL....

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Upgrade on Miller which is a great thing. If he can give us consistent and meaningful performances it will give us a huge boost.

Doesn't need to boot multiple goals every game but if he can at least have an impact and create a contest he'll be a welcome addition to the 22 for the remainder of the year.

I'm commenting on the plaudits people are giving Luke on this thread. Yet last year all we ever heard is how he wasn't fit to be on our list and wasn't an AFL footballers cakehole.

He was never as bad as the masses made out over the years. I'm glad to see people are starting to realise that.

He has certainly had a line put through him as a defender. Rightly.

He was only ever filling in down there as we had no one else. All his junior career he played as a forward.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Dare say he'll come up against better key defenders than Lyndon Dunn. He still marking time & as AFL player.

Definately a better option than Miller up forward though. At least he can mark overhead & apply a tackle.

My sentiments also Leysy, when the ball its the ground at least mcguane chases and tackles where by miller simply observes....he does provide another option up fwd and as we know can take an over head mark....if he can do what he did yesterday then he's doing his job.....

Spot on Leysy. Also if Jack had of kicked straight he could have had 5 instead of 1.5 and a complete miss. Then we would have appreciated his game even more. Riewoldt had Frawley covered when he didn't have 3 other blokes all over him like usual.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Our forward line had been disfunctional all year.

At the start of the year, Hardwick was favoring 3 talks up forward in Jack, Ty and Miller.

This didn't really work consistently as the ball rebounded out too easily if the guys didn't mark it.

After that and for the bulk we went with 2 talls in Jack and Vickery/Miller. Jackson played defensive forward with the hope he could take a mark on the lead. We've won games but the forward line still doesn't convert enough of our entries.

Last week we went with Jack, Miller and Elton and once again the ball rebounded out at will.

Yesterday we went with Jack, Derrickx (until Griff went off) and McGuane.

It's obvious that Hardwick favors having 3 marking target inside 50 but hasn't been able to get the mix right.

I think that McGuane adds something different to the mix as he can take a mark but he can apply more defensive pressure when the ball is on the ground than any of the other options.

Jackson was playing defensive forward before getting suspended again.

Could Luke take Jackson's place in that he could play as a 3rd tall forward (drawing 3rd best tall defender) and apply defensive pressure?

So here's a decision most on here wouldn't care to contemplate......Luke or Dan across half-forward?

wont be a question of McGuane or Jackson. It will be McGuane and Jackson.

expect to see a HF line of
Jackson, McGuane, Edwards
in the coming weeks, and years.
