Luke McGuane

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Must be almost time to end our relationship with McGuane. Simply not good enough, just like Rance. Worse still is I suspect McGuane and Rance don't believe in their own minds that they are any good at AFL level either.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

We have no one to replace McGuane. He is our best defender. Who do you want to replace him with at this moment ? Grimes ? He's a stick. Gourdis ? Despite the ridiculous pumping up he's had over the last year, is nowhere to be seen.

Richmond will be in a pretty good place when we have the depth and skill to leave Luke out of the team.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Ah, that's better.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Carlton dominated clearances and inside 50's to the point of embarrassment. The ball was coming in every 2 seconds. Brian Lake would've had a few kicked on him tonight too. I'm not a McGuane fan but a bit unfair to blame him. I will say this though, he still makes me VERY nervous when has the ball in his hands. He always looks so unsure of himself and what to do. Rance was better than usual but still got run down from behind with poor awareness and what's up with all the loopy or sloppy handballs setting up teammates? He's so awkward.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Skinny as he is he is a man. Top five or six for us tonight. Picked himself for next week. Unlike most of his mates who need excuses and allowances.

He gets in trouble because he gets there. To the contest. His friends could learn a lot from him.

He stood under 68 inside 50s. The defenders were not the root cause of that.

PS Just read your post, Barnzy. Some rational thought.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Despite their obvious disposal defficiences both Muscles and Rance were reasonable tonight in light of the football hailstorm that was raining down on them tonight. Rance saved us a goal or two with great desperation efforts.

Just please make sure we have an easy release option when either of them have the ball. I shudder to think what the Pies would have done to us tonight.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Didnt mind both dance or mcguanes games. Not much he could do when hampson stuck out those big mits and finally took those marks in the last. I still like thursty over mcguane. Astbury seems non existent overhead.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Tough night for the defenders with the ball in their area for the majority of the night. i think they held up quite well to be honest.

Mc Guane = dud for gods sake replace with Grimes !!!
Carlton won inside 50s 69 - 37, dominated clearances and people are still going after McGuane.

If you want to go on a witch hunt look at the ruckmen and midfields performance last night for 3 quarters.

Well the witch hunt is on at other threads for other players. This is the McGuane thread, and I think he was very very average last night. Now yes, the ball came down non-stop and McGuane is playing well above his weight. But he played some time on the big lugs. Where was his run, his peeling off these lugs to provide options etc? This is where he should have been using his advantage. All we end up is a guy who amsses 9 possessions, 2 marks and gives two free kicks away. AFL footy is at a stage today where you shouldn't have to shudder everytime a player gets the ball, whether they will turn it over. I feel this way everytime he gets the ball. That we don't have any better key positions at this point in time is a blight on our list. The McGuane's simply have to go, if we are to become a finals and premiership threat in the future. He is simply not good enough.

Personally, I don't like the use of inside 50 stats to defend a backman. if a backman is a good player they will win more than 50% of those contests which will reflect in their own stats. 9 possessions and 2 marks doesn't reflect a win for McGuane. Last night I did not learn anything about McGuane that I didn't already know.
