Luke McGuane

Yeah he makes me crack it a couple of times a match with his disposal/decision making
no doubt that's his weakness, but not hard to coach him to avoid the short stuff where possible and handball or kick long to a contest.

Once he went off with injury last Sat night, we suddenly looked a lot more vulnerable down back.
i agree

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

Muscles has a bit of tood. Ya gotta like that.

Re: Luke McGuane = Guts

McGuane hasn't been missed one bit the last 2 weeks.

Backline going great without him. All of our defenders don't panic with the ball and are decent kicks. Thursfield has stepped up without him and got 20 and 18 possession games. Just right now I'm watching the Sydney match. LRT defends well, very well in fact but he makes dumb decisions and chops up the ball. He's a good comparison to *smile*.

Agree that McGuane wasn't missed.
The backline played the best it has all year last night.

Not were Cousins or Tambling missed for that matter.

That's very naive TOO. The 22 we had out there busted their guts and came home with a ripping win. However it came at the expense of many injuries. A footy club needs depth and that's something we are working on. Cuzzy is a walk up start for us, Tambo will be fine and Luke is a good VFL player who will fill spots as needed.

foley wasnt missed either. doesnt mean they wont improve our side.

the test for our backline without mcguane will come when we play a side with a big key forward, or if moore keeps his form, 2 big key forwards.

So, does this mean that the Saints didn't miss Nick?

Muscles, Foley and Cousins are definitely in our best 22 now. The fact that the 22 out there did such a great job speaks for our improving depth. It certainly doesn't mean that the injured boys were not missed!

A fit Foley is a walk up start. Obviously improves our team and is part of our future.
Pretty naive to think otherwise.

Of course he is, just like Cuz and Tambling. McGuane on the other hand is problematic.

As I said on another thread, Richo named Muscles as our best tall defender. Are you suggesting Richo is another who has no idea?

No, not at all.

my bet is when muscles is fit again he will be rushed straight back in to the team

Who will he replace, if all the backs are going alright and are fit?

Couldnt agree more. The backline last night was brilliant. Kel was sensational and Willy had a great one too.

Big mistake to bring McGuane back IMO.

I'm only just watching the game now but the game day thread is full of posts asking who has pav, pav is tearing us up, if pav isn't stopped we're doomed.

Sounded to me that we did miss McGuane.

Pav kicked 2 of his goals from the midfield, and one from a free paid against Moore that wasn't there. He alternated between the midfield and the forward line. Pav didin't seem to get tagged when in the midfield, Tuck lined up on him at one centre bounce I remember. And the umpires absolutely love him, he gets a couple of seconds longer than anyone else to dispose of the ball when tackled, it was a miracle in the last when a free kick was paid against him. The crowd gave the bronx cheer.
McGuane was not missed one bit, the backline has been it's most composed for years in the last 2 weeks. McGuane lovers need to understand he's not the messiah.
McPhee played some McGuanesque football last night - some nice defensive stuff coupled with 2 brain explosions that resulted in tiger goals. It's that sort of stuff that has been eliminated in McGuane's absence. Team deflating stuff.
