Luke McGuane

I'm going to miss McGun.

Remember the early days when he was thrown to the wolves as full back against the likes ofTony Lockett. He has always shown immense courage, especially as part of an undersized and poorly skilled back line. I think he was always meant to play forward.

Good luck Luke.

After many pages of vigorous debate (I'd hate to do a "dud" word count on this thread) has it occurred to everyone that we've been rejected by Luke the Duke - twice!

Regardless, still remember the bad old days when there where precious few in the side other Luke McGuane who'd be happy to snarl at the opposition and have a go when it got a bit tense and physical.

perhaps he would have stayed if the club offered him 3 years.

but you are right any fringe players who wants to go should go. and we should be happy they are gone.

Yeah, I love the fact two of our whipping boys, McGun and Whitey, knocked back the. RFC. It's very amusing.

Then throw in Jacko winning the JD and it's obvious we need to recruit a whipping hoy for next year. I can only assume that's why we're linked to Hampson

Pettard. Grigg.

both are rated a lot higher by the coaching staff than PRE it seems.

I don't remember him playing on Plugger. I don't think he did. I thought his first game was against the Swans and Micky O gave him an absolute bath in a 100+ point shellacking. It was the week before we got up and rolled Adelaide. Luke gave everything, but even when he played those games up forward and he did well, I always got the feeling that it wasn't going to be too long before his game got worked out and his presence would hurt us. I'm glad he's been given the opportunity to continue his career elsewhere, but I don't see him as a huge loss for the team.

I see what you did there...

Lockett retired in 1999, and played 3 more games in 2002. Luke was drafted in 2004 and was 15 in 2002. Don't think he ever had the pleasure of minding Lockett... ;)

Luke's debut was against O'loughlin if I remember right. Got toweled.

Took him a while to get a debut game as well I think.

wasnt that Thursfield and he beat micky o that day.

Thursfield played on Micky O in his debut game in 2005.
We beat the Swans by a point and Thursfield did really well on him, even though Micky O kicked 3, he only took 3 marks.

Lukey also played against Sydney in his debut game a year later against Sydney, we lost by 118 points, not sure if Luke played on Micky O but Micky O had 10 marks and kicked 3 goals that day.

We obviously thought he had some value as we offered him a contract.
Good luck at Brisbane.

i wouldn't have a clue if luke wanted a 3 year contract to stay and see no use speculating. i was going by his comments that he had planned to go back to qld and he needs a fresh start to make the most of the few years remaining in his career..

not sure about luke but will thursfield was matched with oloughlin in his debut game. jacko went ok on him at the start of his career too. we must have used micky to blood our youngsters.

And Richmond didn't, this comment amazes me, if Richmond didn't throw him forward late 2011, I don't think he would have a career to revitalise.

Has anyone noticed how many fringe or dud Richmond players end up on other teams lists, off memory there has been Graham, Tambling, Polo, Fiora, Pattison, Rodan, Meyer, White, McGuane, etc.

No, that was another year, it was Thursfield's first game. He beat Micky O and we won by a point I think. I believe Luke played on Micky O that day because Thursfield had done his knee against the Saints.

Gaspar also used to match up well on Micky O.
