Luke McGuane

A highlight this year from McGuane was that tackle late in the 4th qtr round 1 against Carlton - pure skill and possibly saved the game for us - then typical McGuane, went back 15m out directly in front and kicked a point.

Like White, one of my favourites - for his efforts on the field, for hanging in there despite all the criticism and in-and-out of the team stuff, and for being such a gentleman when I met him at functions. Enjoy your twilight years in the sun, Lukey.

do we get anything for losing these guys

No very unlikely I'd think.

Goodbye chicken legs. Tried your heart out but I view losing players like White and McGuane as more positive steps for the Richmond FC. At real good sides they'd be unlikely to feature much, we're nearly at that level and thus offered them short term contracts only. They have to do what's best for them so good on them but it means we replace and upgrade.

i agree

All the best Luke, and good luck. I always had time for this bloke even when he was in the backline. Fair enough he is moving on, he would only be playing a depth role at tigerland, he may get more opportunity elsewhere.

Old faithfuls White and McGun depart for greener pastures. Does this say something about our esteemed culture?

Regardless - frees up salary space.

Good luck Muscles and enjoy being back home - you were one of my favourite footballers / entertainers of recent years.

Funny how all the love for McGun comes out after he leaves.
Not all but know what you mean.
I've always been a staunch supporter of his efforts and hope he goes well up north.
Well done Luke and congrats on your 100 plus career at Tigerland

If this is a dig at the clubs culture I think you are wayyyyy off the mark!

Welcome to free agency. In a few years time, if not sooner, we will be very use to players moving between clubs to further / prolong their careers.

We are moving more towards the NRL model, like it or not. Players will be loyal to their teams while they are playing for them. Some will continue to be one club players, but others will move to get the best opportunity to play the game they love.

Although it is sad for supporters, it is what the players have wanted and is something I don't begrudge them. AFL is now more a 'business' and the 'employees' are just exercising their rights within that context.
